USC’s hot August recruiting continued Saturday afternoon with a commitment from DB Jamyest Williams 5'9 175", a native of Athens, who attends Grayson High School in Loganville. Williams was thought of by college recruiters as one of the top cornerback prospects in the country based on his offer list that includes Power 5 Conference programs from coast to coast. At the end of the process Williams narrowed his list to Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee and the Gamecocks.
Williams made his decision known during an ESPN interview at his football field prior to his team’s game tonight with IMG Academy of Bradenton, FL which ESPN2 is televising. He will not talk with other media about his decision until after tonight’s game.

Williams made several visits to USC during the recruiting process and the Gamecocks gained traction with him thru each visit. But he was already familiar with Will Muschamp and secondary coach Travaris Robinson because they recruited him when they were at Auburn. That carried over to USC when the new staff arrived and overcame the lack of interest from the previous staff.
“Coach Muschamp and coach T-Rob have a great regiment and I already see that myself,” Williams said in July after a USC visit. “That’s what I really like about them. They told me I would be able to make a lot of plays. Being in the SEC and just making plays.”
Williams joins OL TJ Moore of Charlotte, DE MJ Webb of Madison, GA and DB Hamsah Nasirildeen as highly recruited prospects to commit to USC in August. And Williams’ father, JJ Williams, says this commitment is a firm one.
“Once we commit, we’re 100 percent committed,” Williams said. “We don’t believe in committing and decommitting. He’s still going to take his visits, let’s let that be known. He’s going to take his five visits but at this point he’s a hundred percent. South Carolina is just a great fit for him. Jamyest is a relationship guy. It was neck and neck, Georgia and South Carolina and Jamyest just want to make his own legacy. South Carolina has had some great players in the past but he wants to be that guy that sticks out put South Carolina back on the map.”
Williams’ becomes the 22nd commitment for USC’s 2017 class and the sixth for the defensive backfield. He’s also the fourth from Georgia and the second from Athens.
