ABOUT THIS GAME

  • Among the tightest and most respectful rivalries in the SEC, South Carolina and Mississippi State have combined to claim the last six SEC regular-season championships and the last five SEC Tournament titles, squaring off against each other in three of those five contests. They are currently the two highest ranked teams in the league as well.
  • South Carolina leads the series 21-19. The team with the better national ranking has won eight of the last 10 meetings between the two.
  • Both teams rank among the nation's top 10 in scoring average, scoring margin and blocks per game. They are both in the top 20 in field goal percentage as well.
  • South Carolina senior Mikiah Herbert Harrigan needs 11 points to reach 1,000 for her career. She will become just the sixth Gamecock to record 1,000 points and 100 blocks in her career.
PARKING/FAN INFORMATION

  • Parking is available for $10 per vehicle in the Discovery Garage and the City Garage (located near Pendleton, Park and Lincoln Streets). (See parking map here (PDF))

  • The first 1,000 fans will receive rally towels.
GAMECOCK NOTABLES

  • The Gamecocks have played nine games against top-50 RPI teams, the second-most in the country, winning an NCAA Div. I-best eight of those games, including four of their five games against top-25 RPI foes.
  • South Carolina's offense is as dynamic and diverse as any in the country. Four Gamecocks average double-figure points; 10 have scored in double figures at least once; and seven have led the team in scoring at least once. Through five SEC games, seven Gamecocks average at least 7.0 points per game and eight have scored in double figures at least once.
  • The Gamecocks' focus on rebounding has led to a +13.5 rebounding margin, which ranks fifth in the nation. That number goes up to +19.4 in SEC games. Carolina leads the country with a 45.5 percent offensive rebounding rate and has been out-rebounded just once this season.
  • Zia Cooke leads the Gamecocks with  17.4 points per SEC games, ranking sixth in the league and first among SEC freshmen. She has led or tied for the team lead in all five SEC games, hitting the 20-point mark twice in her first five league outings.
  • Aliyah Boston is averaging a double-double in SEC games (14.0 ppg/12.2 rpg) and against ranked opponents (14.0 ppg/10.3 rpg). She is the top rebounding freshman in the SEC, overall and in conference games. Three of her team-best seven double-doubles have come in SEC play.
  • Senior Tyasha Harris continues to quarterback the Gamecock offense with a measured balance of scoring and distributing. Between her 11.8 points per game and her 5.0 assists per game leading to 11.3 points per game, she has her hands on 27.6 percent of the Gamecocks' 83.7 points per game.
BY THE NUMBERS

4 Five or more Gamecocks have scored in double figures in four SEC games and 11 games overall this season, including seven games of six double-digit scorers.

+11.0 In the first quarter, the Gamecocks have out-scored their SEC opponents by 11.0 points per game (21.4-10.4). Carolina's highest-scoring quarter is the third (28.4 ppg)

29.6 The South Carolina bench has scored 29.6 points per SEC game this season, nearly 1/3 of the team's 90.8 points per game.

42.4 The Gamecocks average 42.4 points in the paint this season, accounting for 68.1 percent of their made field goals.

50.6 South Carolina leads the league with 50.6 rebounds per SEC game. Its 48.4 rebounds per game for the season rank third in the nation.

90.8 The Gamecocks' 90.8 points per SEC game leads the league. The program record for SEC scoring average is 75.1 (2014-15).

The 2nd Period was all Mississippi State's, as they out-scored South Carolina 29-21, but the Gamecocks still cling to a one point lead 43-42 as the first half came to a close. The Bulldogs still are in more foul trouble, but shot 60% (6-10) after shooting 38.5% (5-13) in the 1st Quarter. Hopefully we come out for the 2nd half with stronger defense.

Rickea Jackson, the talented 5-star freshman that chose Miss State over the Gamecocks, came to play, leading the Bulldogs with 13 points, the only Bulldog in double digits. Ty Harris and Kiki Herbert-Harrigan have led the way as seniors for the Gamecocks, with 14 and 12 pts respectively....

Mississippi State's doing to us what we normally do to other teams: coming at us in waves with players making shots and scoring points from everyone. Their bench is blowing our bench out of the water. Our defense is struggling to stop them from making shots right now.....

Vic Shaefer and staff as a coaching staff seems to have found a way to win the coaching match-up. They've been able to bring the better-executing team to our games for a while now.....

So that even though Miss State have more fouls, they are not being impacted much by that, as they are getting scoring contributions from everyone. We are seeing some freshman finally playing like freshman tonight, for the Gamecocks. Boston needs more rebounding help from Herbert-Harrigan.....

Miss St. again out-shoot the Gamecocks 23-19, shooting 56% in the Quarter, and lead 65-62. The Bulldogs are killing the Gamecocks on dribble drives to the basket, and are scoring at a fantastic clip. The Gamecocks need to pick those up better, defensively......

On the Miss State inbounds, the inbounds pass was knocked out of bounds. Officials are saying that it was off the Gamecocks, Miss St. ball....

On the 2nd inbounds play, MSU gets it in, Buloldogs miss on their shot, and Boston rebounds the ball!! Gamecocks call timeout with the ball and the lead, 12 seconds left!!!
