Now that the season is over, we get to the next big question. Who might stay?
Besides Olivia and Kierra, all the other SR's can use the Covid option and come back one more year.
Brea Beal already said she don't want anymore college. And Alijah is sure to be the 1st pick in the draft. NIL can't get her that kind of money next year.
But what about Zia, Saxton, and LA.
With them, and the other returning players; Kamilla, Breezy, Kitts, Feagen, and Cooper, then they could have another amazing season.
I know Dawn has a couple more recruits lined up but the experience and talent those 3 could bring is huge.

Victaria is out of eligibility. This year was her Covid year.

Olivia still has the Covid year available. I don't know what she will decide, but I honestly don't think any of the seniors are coming back.

Even if none of them come back, I still think we'll be a top 15 team next year. Possibly better depending on any portal newcomers.

I didn't realize the WNBA requires players to declare for the draft within 48 hours of the player's final game. Aliyah declared earlier today. We will know the rest of the decisions by the end of tomorrow.

I believe that's because the WNBA season starts sooner or something like that.

I remember both A'ja and Tiffany Mitchell started playing very soon after they graduated.

The SI article I read was a little misleading. The 48 hours applied only to players in the Final Four. Other players had to declare at least 10 days prior to the draft. This year's draft is April 10. WNBA season starts late May or early June, so they will be playing again sooner rather than later.

I could see Amihere possibly staying. Assuming she would start, she could definitely improve her NBA options.

I do think the decision time is really quick, but I can understand with them starting so soon. I am just glad that the WNBA makes them stay in college longer, or at least be older...
The WNBA "requires players to be at least 22, to have completed their college eligibility, to have graduated from a four-year college or to be four years removed from high school".
I just wish Men's Basketball, Baseball, football, etc. were all the same.
I was surprised to hear that Boston's NIL would have paid her more than the WNBA is going to pay her. But it is not about money for her. I think she will do really well in the WNBA because they will not be double and triple teaming her there.
I just hope a couple of them decide to stay and help keep Gamecock women's basketball up at the top.

Good luck getting the NBA, MLB, NFL, WNBA, and their player unions to all agree on that collectively bargained issue 🤣

I do not believe it will ever change at all.
At least the NFL makes them be 3 years out of HS. The NBA says at least 19 or 1 season after HS.
MLB will take them right out of HS.
I just think players like GG and players like UK always saw, I just think it would be better if they had to stay a couple years in college.
But it Lamont can make Carolina the place for 5 stars to come do their 1 and done, bring it on. Sadly, GG did not impress me a whole lot. I think he needs another year anyway.

The basketball leagues are the ones most likely to change their CBA rules about draft eligibility. I think both of those CBAs are set for a few years though. The NBA doing away with the one-and-done rule was on the table, but ultimately didn't pass.

As someone who prefers collegiate sports to professional sports, I think baseball's model is the best. They are aided by having a fully developed minor league system though.

Success in any career comes from commitment, discipline and a good work ethic.

You don't hear NIL noise out of Dawn's team, but all they do is win.

You don't hear NIL noise out of Kingston's players, but all they are doing is winning right now. There are some quality draft picks on the baseball team this year.

I also think the portal has minimized the effect of one-and-done player teams like UK.

NIL money is a good compromise with players in any college sport that are good, but not quite good enough to play and compete at the professional level most of the time.

Dawn is always going to be able to recruit girls that are great athletes, but not necessarily dependent on NIL money for one reason or another.

Just read that LSU had 9 new players on this year's team. Not sure if USC would have won the final vs LSU or not, maybe with all the consecutive wins they got a little complacent.

You didn't see the Covid issues on this team like we did with Frank's and that implies discipline and sacrifice.

I'm sure most college athletes in the indoor sports are glad to be done with school for many reasons.

Best of luck to those who leave.
