Weekend recruiting updates (Sunday afternoon)

Jan. 29, 2017

DE Aaron Sterling came out of his official visit to USC Sunday still undecided between USC and Tennessee.  He said it’s a 50-50 deal between the two at this point.  “The visit was awesome.  I got to see more in detail everything.  I got to talk to the players and get their opinion on everything.  They keep listing me like Dominique Easley, come in and play that three technique, anything on the D-line.  I like that.  I still got to pray on it.  Still thinking.  Signing Day.  I’m going to sit down with my mom and talk with my dad and get their opinion.  It’s just that feeling, asking God which one is the best.”   Sterling said Tennessee also gave him a good visit and he couldn’t say one visit was better than the other.  There is a 10:00 AM signing ceremony set for his school Wednesday.

DE Devontae Davis (6-4 245) of Silver Bluff made his official visit to USC over the weekend.  The Gamecocks are looking at him as a potential sign and place prospect unless his grades improve enough the rest of the school year to qualify.  “It was a nice experience.  They showed me the academic center and the whole campus.  They are waiting to see where my grades fall at the end of this year and go from there. If I don’t qualify, they would like for me to go to junior college just as long as I come back here.”  Davis said he’s also looking at Coastal Carolina.  As for junior colleges, he’s looking at Georgia Military, Jones and Garden City.  He’s not sure if he will sign on Wednesday.  Davis said USC started recruiting him at the beginning of his senior season and he likes defensive line coach Lance Thompson.

Per GamecockCentral,  Silver Bluff DE Devontae Davis is on an official visit to USC this weekend.  Davis played in the Touchstone Energy North-South Game.  The report said USC would like to place Davis in junior college.

TE Gavin Schoenwald of Nashville was at USC’s junior day Saturday.

2019 DB Jeremiah Gray of Charlotte was at USC Saturday.

Gaffney WR Dennis Smith did not make it to USC Saturday for family reasons.   He plans to go to Duke and UNC in February.

WR Steven Gilmore Jr. of South Pointe did not make it to USC Saturday but plans to visit soon, USC is his lone offer.

LB Eli Adams of South Pointe did not make it to USC today. He plans to visit February 25th for a junior day.

DE Sean McGonigal Jr. of Myrtle Beach Friday signed preferred walk-on papers with USC.  He had 19.5 sacks last season along with 30 tackles for loss and 89 total tackles.

PK Jack Driggers of Tallahassee committed to Duke. Had a walk on offer from USC.

USC offered 2019 WR Kameron Brown of Colleyville, TX.
