Welcome Home Coach Paris

Have I missed the announcements regarding Coach Paris' staff? I know he was waiting because one of his former assistants was in consideration for a coaching job, but I haven't heard anything since.

This seems like a critical time to have a full coaching staff to try and secure current players from leaving, and also to entice portal entries.

No, you haven't missed anything. From last night's Carolina Calls:

“There is no official staff that has been hired yet,” Paris said. “We are getting close. I would anticipate that by the end of the week that I’ll have, officially, at least one staff member added to the mix. Once that domino falls, it will happen pretty quickly after that. I still have one scenario that’s still out there. I am kind of waiting on one position to fill. I would say towards the end of the week, I would be able to say I have some assistants in the recruiting department trying to get things put together. I’ll have at least one guy hired probably by the end of the week.”

I'm going to have to see Coach Paris and his 2022-23 squad in action. Some of the things he mentioned in this article make me a little sick to my stomach, but I'm willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt at present. He'll get one "gimme" season right off the bat, as he was put behind the 8 ball by Ray Tanner. But the defense he describes and the ball pressure stuff - Right now I've got a big ? in my head.

I have enjoyed Carey's views on 107.5 over the years.

It's a start. No other programs have scooped up Couisnard out of the portal yet and Key's still with us as far as I can tell.

Maybe roping Jermaine back into the program and stabilizing the remaining players will be Carey's first accomplishment.

I like hiring Carey Rich for this role. I think he can be a great ambassador for the men's bball program.

Paris' staff is starting to take shape. He has hired Tanner Bronson and Eddie Shannon, who follow him from his staff at Chattanooga, after the hire of New Chattanooga Head Men's Basketball Coach Dan Earl.

Tanner Bronson profile (Chattanooga)
Eddie Shannon profile (Chattanooga)

Bronson is an impressive guy. This makes things much more interesting from a recruiting standpoint. Shannon, of course, has SEC pedigree, playing under Billy Donovan at Florida. Both should make good hires, and have proven their worth to Coach Paris already.

The 107.5 guys had on the ESPN portal analyst last Friday and he said as I speak there are currently 1073 players in the portal. When I hang up with you that number will likely be different. Either a couple up or down.

He went on to say that the sad thing is that when all of the dust settles there are going to be possibly hundreds of players with no where to go.

Looks like Keyshawn is declaring for the NBA draft. In my mind that's a bad decision for him, after the season he had this year. He's got plenty of potential for the NBA, but he still needs to fine tune a few things on his game, as far as I'm concerned. Best wishes to him, though. I'd love to see him skying above the rim and participating in the slam dunk contest at the All-Star break.

I agree.

I agree, but also feel Frank got some pretty good players out of the portal for this past season.

Realistically some of our guys may be waiting to see if Frank will make room for them in Amherst.

I believe both Frank and Lamont will do well in their respective new jobs.

I expect to feel more positive once Lamont brings his hires in and am looking forward to a few positive surprises, but hiring is probably also taking his time away from recruiting like it did for Shane early on.
