What can we expect against E. Illinois?

I like how the schedule is set up for the first few weeks.  Each game is a step up.  I really hope we are able to win the first two games decisively, so we don't have to go through the "We were keeping it simple and not going to page 2 of the play book, so we don't show Georgia what we really have" argument.  I do agree with others who already stated that if we struggle in these first two games, it may be a long season again.

I've never understood the "don't show all of our plays" mentality.  If you're up by 3 TDs and the game is in hand why not show all kinds of different looks for the opposing defense to have to spend time preparing for?  (many which you would likely not use in a tighter game anyway?)

I think Beamer needs to hang half a hundred or more. Prove to everyone that all the talk about a wide open big gain offense wasn't just lip service.

I would definitely like to see that.  It would give us the feeling of how Clemson fans feel 9 or 10 times a season.

This game will be a good opportunity to learn about his team, and establish a feel as a staff how to manage a football game. The offense will be pretty basic: no need to break open the playbook, and a lot of players won't be ready to execute it anyways. Hopefully we'll be able to run a basic set of plays and still run ramshod over them. But also get as many players in the two and three-deep opportunities....

I am looking forward to the game.  I hope we can build a lead and then substitute to build depth rather than doing something stupid like leaving Hilinski in for the 70 attempts against CSU that gave him a gimpy elbow the rest of the season.

Putting 40+ on Eastern Illinois with the second string in would be a great statement win for Beamer.

We will know we're better when the defense locks them down and we kick 'em.

Of course this discussion has been reframed somewhat by whether or not Luke plays ... if the answer is no, will be even more run-based, IMO.

I honestly don't know what Satt's offense will be like.

Shane has said we're going to throw to the TE, but that's about it.

I personally would have liked to see us run more I-formation stuff that past few years, but we obviously weren't healthy enough on the RB side.  A strong package with the non-starter RBs would be nice.

The mood in the fan base will improve dramatically if Coach White improves the defense, and I believe he will this season.

It almost has to be an improvement over the defensive genius's defense of last year.

Contrary to public opinion, I would rather open against this team than a regular FBS opponent. The cupboard for Beamer's staff is more bare now than it was when Muschamp took the reigns from Spurrier. Yes, we have a star studded D-line, but our secondary will somehow be even more decimated than it was last year. We're also pretty depleated at linebacker, as well as at wide receiver.

This year, this team will go as far as our passing offense and defense will go.

Playing an FCS team week 1 will give our receivers a chance to come into their own and make some big plays. It will give our secondary an opportunity to gel and get some game experience communicating together without the pressure of a real FBS opponent. Let's not forget that most of our secondary are transfers, and have little to no chemistry with each other. They desperately need some real game time to say 'okay, these are my guys. I know I can play with these guys and trust them'.

Truthfully, I expect the defense to be bad. I think it will be a shootout of sorts. I think we'll play hard for sure, but I don't see us playing lights out. I don't think we'll get a very good read on what the team actually looks and plays like all that well. The most you can call it is a necessary tuneup for ECU.

This team needs confidence and hopefully this game should give them some. We will have a tough road to hoe and I’m fine with this game being first. But we won’t learn how we are during this game.
