What makes Dakereon Joyner such a massive priority for the Gamecocks?

For a while, it looked like the presumed 2-team race for 4-star QB Dakereon Joyner would be crashed by Alabama. However, it seems to be back between South Carolina and North Carolina State for for the talented in-state quarterback’s services.
“Four-star quarterback Dakereon Joyner will not visit Alabama this weekend, as originally scheduled,” SEC Country’s Hale McGranahan wrote late last week. “The 2018 prospect from Fort Dorchester High School (North Charleston, S.C.) will not reschedule.”
Joyner has become one of the biggest priorities for the Gamecocks in the Class of 2018 because he represents an immediate (and exciting) solution for the team’s quarterback depth problem.
With the departures of QBs Brandon McIlwain and Lorenzo Nunez, a commitment from Joyner could go a long way in securing the future of Carolina football.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound quarterback is set to announce his pick on Father’s Day.
