What music are you listening to now?

KEXP! The sounds of the Pacific Northwest baby!
Best 'radio' station in the country! Their KEXP live music series is the best thing on the internet! The sound production coming out of that room is astonishing...the engineers working at KEXP are  superstars. So many great bands and performances...I know of no where else that comes close...subscribe, follow, support...they are the best!

Their Raw Power...Mike McCready, Duff Mckagen, Barrett Martin and the flat out perfect Mark Arm...playing stooges covers fundraiser from on top of Market Street is proof Seattle is cooler than you are.

My favorite/most underrated LZ song:

What I love about them is that you can dive pretty deep into their discography and find some of those gems that resonate with you. I do the same things with the Beatles.

LBC's deep dive for "Tangerine" inspired me to post this gem, one of my Top 5 Beatles songs, which says a lot, given that I do think the Beatles are the single most influential group in the history of popular music. Many Beatles fans think of Sgt. Pepper as the height of the band's creativity, but to me the two most interesting albums in that regard are the pair that came before it - Rubber Soul and Revolver. "Tomorrow Never Knows" comes off of Revolver and is one of the most quietly influential songs of its period. It broke HUGE ground in terms of  the science of recording; it was the first Beatles song to use reversed audio snippets (for example, the sound effect throughout the song that sounds like a seagull is actually a reversal of Paul's laughter during the session); the in-studio wizardry of this song almost single-handedly pushed Brian Wilson into the studio to begin work on Pet Sounds, which then inspired the Beatles to go back into the studio to make Sgt. Pepper. "Tomorrow" is also credited with being the first psychedelic song, a full two years before the psychedelic movement swept modern music; part of that is the lyrics, much of which John cribbed from the Tibetan Book of the Dead and the obviously trippy nature of the words, but the other part is the arrangement, use of the sitar, etc. as well. Last thing I'll point out is Ringo's uncharacteristically aggressive work on his drum kit - he is absolutely HAMMERING away in the background. Enough babbling - I just love the song.

That is a DEEP rabbit hole to fall down with their discography!! On Sirius every year over Labor Day weekend, they do the "Top 100 Beatles songs of all time," hosted by various luminaries and collaborators ... and it's a great way to hear the backstories of so many of these songs as well as discover ones you had either forgotten or just missed. My top 4 vacillates between A Day in the Life, Here Comes the Sun, In My Life, and Tomorrow Never Knows ... any one of those could be my favorite Beatles song that day.

Forgot all about this band. Just heard them on streaming radio. This song was huge back in the day, but seems to have fallen of the radar. They had several great songs.
