South Carolina recruiting rankings
Before 4-star quarterback Ryan Hilinski committed to South Carolina on Wednesday, the Gamecocks 2019 class was ranked No. 8 in the country and fifth among teams from the SEC, according to the 247Sports composite.
South Carolina’s nine-man class is now ranked No. 6 nationally and fourth in the SEC. Only Michigan (11) and Ole Miss (10) have more 2019 commitments.
Before Hilinski’s commitment, the Rivals rankings had South Carolina’s class as the 11th-best in the country, tied with Florida State. The Gamecocks are now No. 9.
If Hilinski (Orange, Calif.) performs well at the Elite 11 this summer, he’ll have a chance to up his recruiting profile, which will certainly help the team’s overall ranking.
On the recruiting trail
Now that Hilinski is committed to South Carolina, he can get started with his No. 1 priority on the recruiting trail: fellow Southern California 5-star cornerback Chris Steele, who plays at St. John Bosco in Bellflower, Calif.
“I already got some [direct messages on Twitter] from some kids that are thinking about committing actually, so I’m going to get those guys after I get Chris, for sure,” Hilinski said.
Hilinski and Steele know each other well.
“I play him every year. I play him in 7-on-7. I play him in tackle football. I play him everywhere I go, so I know him pretty well,” Hilinski said.
