SOUTH CAROLINA PLAYERS TO WATCH


1. South Carolina quarterback Ryan Hilinski is about to get his first-ever college action. He threw for 3,749 yards as a high school junior and then dealt with attrition all around him as he led his senior year team to five wins. He’s the first true freshman to start for USC since Jake Bentley and the fourth since at least the middle of the Lou Holtz era.

2. Wide receiver Bryan Edwards will have a crucial job as a top option for Hilinski, a pass catcher who can go up and get balls. Edwards was held to 7 yards in the opener, but put up 846 yards last season.

3. Senior safety J.T. Ibe missed the opener with a chest injury, after missing most of last season. The hope is for him to stabilize a secondary that had its share of issues against UNC.


WHAT’S AT STAKE

South Carolina aims to bounce back from the opener. The Gamecocks raced out to being double-digit favorites and then took a loss to a UNC team that won five games combined in 2017 and 2018.

The debut of freshman QB Ryan Hilinski will have a lot of focus. The four-star passer has a lot of ability, but he’ll be asked to do a ton early. If he can show well, it might bode well for the team going forward.

As with any FCS team, an upset here would be monumental for CSU. The Buccaneers are .500 the past two years and got knocked around by Furman in Autry Denson’s coaching debut.


CHARLESTON SOUTHERN PLAYERS TO WATCH


1. Quarterback Jack Chambers completed 18-of-25 passes for 192 yards, while running for 24 yards and a score in the 46-13 loss to Furman. He didn’t have any turnovers, but was sacked five times. The redshirt sophomore from Georgia has only made two career starts.

2. Defensive end Nate Salley was perhaps Charleston Southern’s biggest bright spot in the Furman loss. The senior captain recorded nine tackles, including three for loss and a sack.

3. Guard Stephen Haralambis attended the same Chapin High School of Gamecocks Hank Manos and Will Register. The senior has made 21 career starts.

I am so ready for this game. Going to take a couple Melatonin and hit the sack early tonight. Drive on up and get there around 8:30. Plan to forget all about last week and try my best to enjoy some tailgating  and the Gamecock Walk. Really looking forward to seeing Ryan in action. Hope he plays just as good as he did at H.S.

A little anxious. Already got my clothes ready, my cooler ready, my car ready. 16 hours until sandstorm starts.

Not fond of noon games, but it is CSU. Lets beat em! Also really looking forward to seeing what Ryan can do at the QB position, really feel like he will shine. Kid is a baller. Also please feed Tavien Feaster early and often, that guy could rack up 200 yards in this game. And for once Gamecocks do NOT take your foot off the throttle. I don't care if this was a pee wee football team, I wanna see yall drop 70 on these guys. No one else would take it easy on us, so why should we?

I hope your luck turns around man, I wouldn't wish that on anyone, btw I used to have Xfinity, and I am assuming you have internet through them as well, was going to suggest to watch ESPN online but, if it's all out that wouldn't make any sense. 

 
I’ll be disappointed if we don’t come out and dominate on both sides of the ball today. This is a very weak opponent with smaller athletes so there is no way we shouldn’t beat the snot out of them. I’m talking 60-3 type beating. Let’s hope the players and coaches are focused and give their all today!

Yeah, I just have them for internet and use sling. According to their trouble ticket it wont be restored until Monday.

 
Dominate defensively and get out of this game without any major injuries. That should be the goal.

 
In one hour, the Hilinski era begins. May his throws come out fast and on target, and may each receiver take each catch for a TD.

And...win lol, but I agree. Need defense to dominate and offense to show some promising signs with the youngster

 
Score as many points as possible from the first second, until the last second ticks off the clock. 

Repeat for the rest of the year.
