I often see people ask what schools like Florida, Florida St, Miami, Georgia, Tenn,LSU, Auburn
Always have good recruiting classes and we seem to struggle against them. Well it's Tradition that these programs use to help them even if they are having a down year they can still take a recruit that knows nothing about their history and show them the Trophy. I think that helps them greatly. Don't look over the National Championship Trophy, Heisman and Conference Championships as a large selling point even if the young guys didn't know about it before they walk in to the trophy room, it has to make a big impact on the young men. Sure facilities and Stadiums with all the glitz and glamor help complete the Sell.

We can win a few battles against them from year to year but to win the war every year we need more Trophies IMHO.

We may not be there yet but the more we add trophies it will help to close the gap.

Why not South Carolina

Need to keep Winning anyway!

I dont think a kid will commit to UGA when their last title was in 1980....However, being good over a long period does help with gaining fans, and people growing up rooting for certain teams. Like it or not, there are A LOT of fair weather fans that wont bother to root for a team like us when we are struggling to win 5 games....I would think the biggest selling point to a highly rated guy is "how can you help me get to the NFL"...Gone are the days for those guys come in with the goal to start for a college team...

The biggest negative recruiting against us is Spurrier's future, as in how many years does he have left? It's hard to counteract that..just imagine if you're a top rated player, do you want to play for SOS for a year or 2 and then a new coach takes over? Most kids are scared of that thought. I really wish SOS was 10, 15 years younger so he could be here for a long time...

On a positive side, our coaches do their job when these kids get onto campus..Compare UF, UGA etc recruiting rankings vs results over the last 4 years...I think next years team and 2015 recruiting class are essential in determining if we continue success or fall back down...Yes, we will probably have 7 win season again (just like most in the SEC go thru), but can we quickly bounce back is the most important.

We can still have some success w/ Ward in ATL, Mangus in NE & Brown in So Fla. IMO, we need to pick those battles carefully & go after a handfull a yr but really bread our butter in SC & NC.

I think we can do it if we re-shift our focus & coordinate our recruiting a lil differently.

There is no doubt that an SEC Championship &/or a BCS Bowl victory would help. Steve is right, we did squander a few great opportunities, including this yr @ UT. We may still have a shot this yr, but we also need to figure it out on the trail as we can't let UT reestablish their spot in the SEC that we currently occupy.

In UT's glory days, they owned NC , much of SC & picked their battles in surrounding states like Ohio, Indiana , Kentucky , Miss, etc but also recruited nationally as they had to.

We actually have better talent in SC than TN. I believe we can sustain our success with a better effort on concentrating our recruiting on SC, heavy in NC, picking battles in FL & NE & then going after our share in ATL as it's so huge we can win 6-8 of those battles for top 50-75 players in GA a yr
