Devonte Wyatt
DE Devonte Wyatt (6-3 298) of Decatur, GA camped at USC earlier this week without an offer from the Gamecocks. But he must have put on an impressive exhibition in front of Will Muschamp and the defensive coaches because before leaving Muschamp called him over and made him an offer. A day later, Wyatt was ready to commit to the Gamecocks and he did just that.
“If feels great,” Wyatt said. “I’m so happy right now, I started crying when I was leaving South Carolina. It’s just great. The coaches there. The players. Great players, they just made me feel like I was at home. It’s a great environment and everything.”
Wyatt said the Gamecocks like him for both defensive end and defensive tackle. And he’s looking forward to playing for what he believes is an excellent defensive staff.
“Coach Muschamp is one of the best defensive coaches ever,” he said. “Coach Thompson, he’s a great coach. I learned a lot from him at the camp. And Coach TRob, he’s a great coach too. One thing about the coaches, they had me laughing and learning and working hard.”
Wyatt said the Gamecocks see him as a potentially strong pass rusher but he’s also capable of stuffing the run up the middle.
“I’m fast getting off the ball and I just need to work on my hands, the quickness with my hands and things like that,” Wyatt said. “But getting off the ball I’m better at pass rushing.”
Wyatt also has offers from NC State, Oregon State, South Florida, Georgia State and Samford. Wyatt said at this point he is probably shutting down his recruiting.
