Class of 2015 four-star offensive lineman Zack Bailey 6-foot-5, 310-pounder (Summerville/Summerville) is beginning to become a mainstay on the South Carolina campus.
Visited Carolina several times this spring and was back on campus Sunday afternoon with Gamecocks baseball commit TJ Hopkins as Carolina wrapped up a three-game sweep of Missouri.
"It was good. I always like being up there," Bailey said. "I didn't really plan on coming up until this morning. T.J. had texted me last night and asked me if I wanted to come and I texted him this morning and said 'Why not?' So yeah, I went up there and I loved it. The baseball game was great. It was definitely a hot one, that's for sure."
Bailey was able to speak with South Carolina offensive line coach Shawn Elliott while in town.
"I had let him know at the last minute that I was coming up," Bailey said. "We didn't really talk about football a whole lot. He asked me about track, because I'm going to state for track next Friday. He asked me about that and he asked if TJ was committed (for baseball) and I told him he was. That was about it -- we didn't really talk about football. He said he wants to get me up there soon again."
Bailey, who is considered the No. 5 prospect in South Carolina has one good friend in Hopkins committed to Carolina, and another good friend in Sawyer Bridges committed to Clemson.
"T.J. and Sawyer, they just want me to go where I'm happy," Bailey said. "They don't want me to go anywhere because of them, they want me to go where I want to go. They want me to be happy wherever I do decide to go."
What's next for Bailey? He plans a return trip to Columbia for the Gamecocks' OL/DL camp, and also to check out several other schools this summer.
"I talk to Georgia a lot. South Carolina and Clemson are high up on the list," Bailey said. "I talk to the USC Trojans a lot. I talk to Auburn a lot, so I mean those are like the top schools, I guess you could say, because I talk to them a lot. I know this summer I'm planning on taking visits to Georgia, Southern Cal and Auburn, so I know that's coming up. South Carolina and Clemson are probably the highest if there was a couple, but it changes every day."
Bailey does have a timetable for making a decision.
"As far as a time for me committing, I want to do it some time before football season, but I want to make sure that I'm 100 percent and I'm comfortable with where I pick and don't want to have any second guesses," he says.
