83-Georgia 66, USC with 11 straight wins over Georgia and breaks 3 game losing streak

Riding three straight losses heading into Saturday’s bout with Georgia, senior South Carolina forward Keyshawn Bryant promised that his team was “gonna figure this out.” It took some time, but late in Saturday’s game, the Gamecocks finally did. On the strength of a second-half surge, the Gamecocks (11-7, 2-4 SEC) put away Georgia 83-66, dealing the Bulldogs (5-14, 0-6) their sixth conference loss while snapping South Carolina own losing streak.
Gamecocks staring at their fourth straight loss, and a loss to the SEC’s last-place team, both Bryant and Couisnard found another notch in their games Saturday, helping to fuel a game-changing 24-0 Gamecocks run. Couisnard gave the Gamecocks their first lead since early in the first half with back-to-back transition layups, and he finished with 15 points, scoring 10 in the second half. Bryant, meanwhile, electrified the crowd with a one-handed slam and mixed in a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 19 points.
Gamecock, veteran guard Erik Stevenson stepped up, too, leading the team with 20 points
In a bit of bad news for the Gamecocks, the dynamic freshman Carter injured himself early in the second half on a one-handed slam dunk, and he walked off the court clutching the back of his left thigh.
WHAT FRANK MARIN HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE WIN OVER GEORGIA
Martin: Really happy for the team, team had been struggling with confidence, practice was really good leading into this game, disappointed with bench in first half, and help defense was bad, better in both areas in the second half.
Martin: Has been thru the ringer with Bryant and Couisnard but they never turned back on him and he won't on them, Bryant has had some really good practices, he finished plays in open court. Couisnard had best two practices this week.
Martin: Devin Carter has a strained hamstring.
Martin: Bottom line is they stopped fouling on every play, moved their feet, help defense did the job, and rebounded and got out and ran.
Martin: Told the team at halftime if they didn't have fight in their gut, he couldn't help them. That was basically all he said. Came out in second half and played with a purpose.
Martin: Feels like his team has been good as far as effort and want to every time out except for Florida.
Martin: It was fun to watch the 24-0 run to see those three guys get out and play to their strengths and play for each other.
Martin: They've sold out the CLA 5 times during his tenure and the players thrive off the energy of the crowd, wants fans to come out and support his guys.
Martin: Needs to get Leveque going again, has really fallen off last two weeks, Woodley has come in and given them a lift. Gives them a toughness and a mindset they need.
