What should our response be if Russia invades Ukraine?

1045.jpg

Both Boris Johnson and the head of the EU visit Kyiv this past week and Putin's still apparently dialing it up in eastern Ukraine.

Things are not going to end well for Russia.

Some type of DMZ that prevents a retaliatory invasion from Ukrainian forces may be the only answer to his paranoia.

It's been done before in Korea and works today.

I would like to be a History or Political Science major at Carolina right now.

There were very interesting insights from instructors back in the 1980s when the downfall of the Iron Curtain was in progress.

Wonder where the CIA is in all of this? Haven't heard anything at all.
Probably in hiding...their track record of late has been suspect at best. And not to single out just the CIA, but intelligence analysts in general.

We keep stoking the fire and giving them wood as Russia turns the country to rubble and Putin walks around with the nuclear football and it will not end well for Russia, explain? They are still selling oil and natural gas, have an 8 mile convoy headed to Ukraine, the Russian citizens are starting to back the war, this only ends with Ukraine conceding or WW3, someone be the adult and start diplomacy talks as this is insanity imo! Are we ready to go to war with Russia, anyone? Nuclear football... game over, if he does Kyiv like Hiroshima we going to arrest him for war crimes? Tell me the plan, I'm really curious as I read this thread...

We all have different opinions on what is going on over there, but it's really beyond our control at this point.

To say anything more is just to go down a political rabbit hole that goes nowhere.

There are times when I just ignore the news and do other things as well as pray for both sides, because the innocents are always lumped in with the zealots in wars like these.

It would certainly help things if Gamecock baseball was worth a cuss this year and there was something more to talk about besides the war in Ukraine.

So we should let him take Ukraine and everything can return to normal?

Really? Haven't we been telling the rest of the world exactly what Putin has been up to and it becomes fact?
I have no doubt the CIA is heavily involved from an intel stand point. As far as operatives on the ground in Ukraine....that's what I was asking about.

No but I would expect leaders to act diplomatic in the face of nuclear war, did Putin call our leader out for killing Iraq or Afghan citizens, you can't show a video arming and handing out weapons to kids and then cry in war... just my opinion from a battlefield.
Trying to win a war with propaganda in the media costs Ukraine lives daily, posturing and making it public knowledge we are arming them makes no sense to me, if we are going to war, go to war but....

Those have been the thoughts in the back of my mind as well, but I think the big difference is Putin has not played the "foreign terror attacks" card up to this point; at least not in Western news media, if at all. So Russia is perceived as the foreign terror organization at this point.

Not intending to go down a political rabbit hole, but another potential double standard is we have opened our southern border to those Ukrainian refugees who are flying into Mexico directly from Ukraine. The Ukrainians are essentially escaping the same scenarios as Latinos fleeing Central American countries, yet the border remains fundamentally less-open for Latinos compared to the Ukrainians at this point.

I am assuming that is due to the shock of the Russian invasion and the drastically higher number of refugees, at least in the short term.

Historically speaking, people come to the "melting pot" of the United States because most of them are escaping from something very bad in their native countries.

I still don't understand why Putin is doing this.

Does he have a terminal illness and is he just trying to get his jollies while he is still able to do so?

Our own American Revolution ended in 1781, but the British tried to take the country back from us during the War of 1812.

They burned Washington back then.

It's been about 30 years since Ukraine separated from the old Soviet Union and now Putin appears to be trying to take it back in the same way.
