OC choices

Gauging from Shane's last presser for the bowl game, he said he felt Satt might leave after the Panthers fired Rhule and then Rhule became the lead candidate for the Nebraska job.

I don't think Shane would want to hire someone who will end up down the road like what just happened with Satt. JMO

Hiring someone competent and who will end up down this road is a thin line...

According to the big spur, Satterfield was told after the Florida game that he would not be retained. Apparently he was also told that he needed to reduce his player packages, went from 19 to 5.

This explains a lot about the last two games. Shame it took this long for him to figure out that you don’t need 19 different packages. This probably explains why playmakers weren’t getting the touches they needed and why players we’re saying they were unsure of what they were supposed to do. It was just too complicated, the announcers mentioned this in multiple games, the players were alluding to it.

Maybe Kitchens will get an audition in the bowl game, but I suspect he was already involved in the offense after the mizzou and Florida debacles.

Phil Longo...to Wisconsin Per Feldman On the OC hunt Mullen's just rumors, Briles is out, Riley was never a chance. There are other very good OC like the OC Kevin Johns at Duke to name one. A lot of good OC out there just be patient no hurry here.

Yeah, I think there was stuff going on the last two games in the background.

More often than not, there are too many negative connotations regarding the players when you hear the phrase "simply things for the players."

However, it's not their fault if they're overloaded and forced to play Trivial Pursuit when things are hot and heavy on game day.

The silver lining of the extra packages is that guys get PT and the game will slow down sooner for them than if they weren't involved at all.

I think we have some great players that were being held back for reasons out of their control and we're going to do very well in the bowl game.

BIO / Arkansas alum Dowell Loggains serves as tight ends coach for the Razorbacks

Arkansas alum Dowell Loggains serves as tight ends coach for the Razorbacks after spending 16 years in the NFL primarily as a quarterbacks coach, including seven seasons as an offensive coordinator. From 2010-20, he was either an offensive coordinator or quarterbacks coach. From 2010-20, he was either an offensive coordinator or quarterbacks coach for the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins or New York Jets.

1670471770558.pngIn his first season back on The Hill, Loggains took a group of tight ends with limited experience and molded them into a solid contributor on an Arkansas offense that saw vast improvement. Senior Blake Kern started all 13 games and hauled in 15 passes for 183 yards and a pair of scores, including one on a fake field goal at Alabama. Loggains also oversaw the transition of Trey Knox from wide receiver to tight end during the season. Knox’s move paid off for the Hogs with his 20 catches ranking third on the team. The junior caught passes in each of the Razorbacks’ final five games, including four for 47 yards at Alabama.

Loggains spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons as the New York Jets offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. During Loggains’ first season at The Meadowlands, he guided an offense that was among the league’s most proficient on opening drives, scoring 40 first possession points – tied for ninth most in the NFL. Quarterback Sam Darnold’s numbers saw an uptick from his rookie campaign, increasing his win total, completion percentage, passing yards, touchdown passes and passer rating while also lowering his interceptions.

Before joining the Jets, Loggains oversaw a Miami offense that averaged 4.68 yards per rush, the NFL’s ninth-best mark. The Dolphins also ranked second in the league with 14 passing touchdowns of 20+ yards. Additionally, he helped running back Kenyan Drake become one of just nine players in the league to register at least four rushing and receiving touchdowns while producing over 1,000 total yards.

In three seasons with Chicago, his first as the quarterbacks coach in 2015, Loggains mentored Jay Cutler to a career season as the 10-year veteran posted then single-season bests in passer rating and yards per attempt, all while reducing his interception total by seven from the previous season.

The following season in 2016, Loggains was promoted to offensive coordinator and helped running back Jordan Howard finish sixth in the league with 1,313 yards rushing as a rookie. In 2017, he helped Mitchell Trubisky, the second overall selection in the draft, transition to NFL starter as the quarterback finished second among rookie passers in yards and passer rating in 12 starts.

He also groomed another rookie, fourth-round pick Tarik Cohen, that season. The running back became the first rookie since 1965 and first player since 1975 to record a rushing, passing, receiving and punt return touchdown in the same season. Both running back Jordan Howard and guard Josh Sitton earned Pro Bowl selections under Loggains’ watch during the year as Howard again produced 1,000+ yards rushing.

In one season with the Browns, Loggains helped quarterback Brian Hoyer to a career season as the six-year veteran won seven games (in 13 starts) and threw for over 3,000 yards while the offense produced 31 passes of 25+ yards, the 10th most of any team in the league. He worked under offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, now the San Francisco 49ers head coach.

Beginning his coaching career with the Titans in 2006, Loggains spent eight seasons in Tennessee in a variety of roles, ultimately serving as the offensive coordinator for the final five games of 2012 and all of 2013. After head coach Mike Munchak elevated him to full-time offensive coordinator, he helped wide receiver Kendall Wright and running back Chris Johnson become just the organization’s fifth 1,000-yard receiving/rushing combo as Wright brought in 94 catches for 1,079 yards and Johnson gained 1,077 yards on the ground.

He began his career with the Titans as a coaching administrative assistant (2006-07) and quality control coach (2008-09) before spending the next three seasons as the quarterbacks/passing game coordinator, helping quarterback Vince Young achieve a career-high passer rating in 2010, garnering a Pro Bowl appearance.

Earning his start in the NFL with Dallas while working as a scouting assistant, he helped the Cowboys with opponent film breakdown and statistical analysis to be used for game-plan preparation.

Loggains walked on at Arkansas in 2000 as a quarterback and holder before earning a scholarship and becoming a four-year letterman, appearing in 50 games. In his career as a quarterback, he completed one pass for 11 yards and ran twice for five yards.

Loggains and his wife Beth – a former Arkansas cheerleader who he met on the 2000 Las Vegas Bowl trip – have four children: daughters Reese, Aven and Connor and son, Ryne.

intersting. Sounds he’s mostly an FL guy. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Wonder how he is as a recruiter.

This, IMO would be a huge flop. Sure he was in the NFL but his offenses were all awful and the highest his offenses ranked were mid 20’s (out of 32). He was called the worst play caller in the NFL during his failure at the Bears in2017.

The only thing that seems positive are according to some arky fans, he’s a good recruiter. I really hope he is not the next OC.

The grass ain't always greener... he might not be getting hired as the OC, heck we might not even be talking to him, sometimes rumors and inside information are just some asshole running off at the mouth but I agree with your assessment unless he is co coordinator... he has called plays on game day in the trenches.

People, wonder why we are cynical when this kind of stuff is floated our way. I fully expect a good opening game next year, then we’ll give him a 3 year contract extension with a huge raise.

The Hog board among others says he is an excellent recruiter. I highly thought on the Hog board as a TE coach.

Like I said way back in this thread it would be along the lines of a hire we have not heard of in most circles. That's why for the most part I did not bring any names much up. Be a cheap hire like I thought and said and have to roll with it and see. Look Beamer besides Vandy's head man are the two lowest-paid coaches in the SEC. You cannot give an OC more money than an HC.

Stats don't necessarily tell the whole story.

He seemed to have helped certain players improve their individual stats, but the teams he called plays for didn't do well.

I don't know.

My thoughts as well. You still have to recruit in the NCAA.
A very good recruiter and a very liked TE coach from what I have picked up from Ary fans among others I talked to and the people who count to being happy are. So I am.

Well if history has taught us anything, it is that Loggains has just talked Arky into giving him a big raise.

Correct. It all depends on whether he reached out to Shane about the job or vice versa. You would think if he reached out to Shane, he would commit to us.

The moon is cheese. I don't know.
