Putin/Russia calls up 160,000 conscripts

So why would Putin go through this charade just to tell Trump to go pound sand? He could have done that without leaving Moscow.
He did it just to make Trump look weak and mission accomplished.

He only stayed an hour and could had just as easily done it over the phone like you said. I voted for Trump all 3 times, but Putin and Zelensky are their respective nations' leaders in a real war and Trump is just a salesman in a sense. They both can spot BS when they see it.

You could tell by Trump's body language he's truly frustrated with both of them and doesn't really know what to do next, either. There would be nothing wrong in walking away from both sides in the short term and just let them duke it out. Put it on the Euro countries and see what happens.

I'm pretty sure he was there longer than an hour and I don't see where Putin made him look weak. I appreciate him at least trying to broker peace. If this doesn't work I completely agree with you though. Back away and let them go at it.

I think both will regret the photo op because it looks like both are sleeping with the enemy. Love him or hate him, Putin is a legit world leader while Trump is still just a TV show in many ways.

Both massive egos were on display in Anchorage, though. I think Trump has already given into NATO-like security guarantees for Ukraine after the meeting with Putin. Withdrawal from Ukraine is only way to peace. Some Euro countries have already committed to peace-keeping security forces on the ground in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire. Realistically I think that will eventually happen before a legitimate cease-fire.

Russian arrogance.

All the heads of state on both sides are talking out of multiple sides of their mouths right now.

Still clear as mud.

Is that M113 one of the "arms" we gave to Ukraine? At least that would be my assumption.

Just did a quick google, apparently part of 200 that we sent Ukraine in 2024.

Russian sh_t. None of it makes sense to us.
Right.

It's really not our war and Trump doesn't want to pay for it, but you don't launch massive strikes after just meeting with a head of state who is trying to help you, either.

Putin is going to Putin until somebody kills him and no country, including ours, has the stones to kill him right now.

I remember reading where JFK, our popular warrior-king POTUS, looked like he had seen a ghost after his first meeting with Nikita Krushchev at the start of the Cold War. That's exactly the way Trump looked after his meeting with Putin in Alaska. What a mess.

Lot's of emotion in some of what I see posted here and I get it, but none of us know what was said behind closed doors and what may be in the works. At the end of the day, Ukraine lost this war and in history the loser never gets everything they want, just a matter of fact. I don't think Ukraine will get all of their territory back because they lost, but if they truly want this thing to end they will find a way to negotiate. I also think bringing in the European leaders we let them know they need to step up as this is on their backsteps and they need to be involved in keeping the peace moving forward. I don't understand a lot of our media narratives out there right now as they all parrot the same verbage. It feels like many would prefer this conflict continue and grow.

I agree with most of what you said, but I do think Putin will try to advance further into Ukraine no matter what agreement is reached, if any. I think Trump has realized a while ago since returning to office that he has placed too much faith in Putin agreeing with him on ending the war in Ukraine. If Trump thinks Putin is backing him into a corner, I believe he will eventually support allowing Ukraine into NATO; they are almost there anyway. Whether it's NATO or a coalition of the willing, I think that's where things are heading. Trump is very good at the roundtable meetings, but he seemed like whatever Putin said to him in Anchorage is still bothering him. Getting the NATO countries to spend more of their GDP on defense is a big win for Trump. Having the Euro countries take primary ownership of the Ukraine war would be his next big one.

The government taking a stake in Intel makes sense, given the company's key role in producing semiconductors in the US, said Vincent Fernando from investment consultancy Zero One.

Washington needs critical industries like chip manufacturing and defence to not have to rely on foreign suppliers, he said.

The developments came as the US chip industry is under intense scrutiny by the White House.

Last week, Nvidia and AMD agreed to pay the US government 15% of their Chinese revenues as part of an unprecedented deal to secure export licences to China.

Trump is actively trying to bring vital industries back to this country. It's going to take some organizations and industries out of their comfort zones, but it's the right thing to do. I think he will eventually find the handle on the Ukraine war, too.

At the end of the day, Ukraine lost this war
That's not true. How does Russia win a war where they have had over 1 mil casualties? In 3.5 yrs of fighting, they've taken only a small portion of Ukraine, while daily Ukraine is striking deep into Russian territory with strikes. At this point, no one has won anything.

Let's not forget that Russia is in gross violation of the Bucharest memorandom that the US brokered with Ukraine & Russia.

By showing weakness towards Russia, we are telling N Korea & China that we'll not stand in their way of any aggression. We are the appeasors. Reagan, Nixon, & Ike are turning in their graves.

None of our Pacts or agreements mean anything if we're not going to stand up to Russia for what they've done.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the choice of the target was "very telling."

"It was an ordinary civilian enterprise, an American investment," the president wrote on Telegram. "They produced such familiar household items as coffee machines. And this is also a target for the Russians."

"It seems like there is no effort from the world to stop this war," Zelenskyy added. "A response is needed to this. There is still no signal from Moscow that they are really going to go into meaningful negotiations and end this war. Pressure is needed. Strong sanctions, strong tariffs."

If you are looking at it from a territory standpoint, which is what the war is being fought over Ukraine did lose. If we had not provided weapons this would not even be debatable. By saying this I am in no way supporting Putin's actions. I think he should be taken out by someone. I am not sure if you are saying we are showing weakness? I have not seen this up to this point. I think we should have tried to bring resolution before now though.

Estimates vary but most historians place Russian WWII casualties at between 20 - 25 million. Human lives mean nothing to Putin. Short of someone inside his circle taking him out the only way this war ends is if tariffs and sanctions cut off funding for the war.

Ukraine is in a hell of a dilemma. We (and others) guaranteed their security as has been pointed out and they got royally screwed. This is a classic example of why the UN is utterly worthless. I wish we'd withdraw and force it out of NY.

I think you give the peace negotiation process until December. If no progress toward ending the war is made, then the NATO countries have to step in with a no-fly zone and peacekeeping troops, which should not be US troops BTW.

I have zero use for Putin in particular and Russia in general but I get why they don't want NATO troops in Ukraine. I would now counter by offering (this of course would need to be worked out in advance) troops from (for example) some combination of countries like Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Columbia, Mexico, Brazil, Chile etc. I don't see any rational reason for Putin not being OK with that type of peace keeping force.
