Putin/Russia calls up 160,000 conscripts

I have zero use for Putin in particular and Russia in general but I get why they don't want NATO troops in Ukraine. I would now counter by offering (this of course would need to be worked out in advance) troops from (for example) some combination of countries like Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Columbia, Mexico, Brazil, Chile etc. I don't see any rational reason for Putin not being OK with that type of peace keeping force.
Maybe a joint Indian/Pakistani peace keeping force. What could go wrong? 😆

I think you give the peace negotiation process until December. If no progress toward ending the war is made, then the NATO countries have to step in with a no-fly zone and peacekeeping troops, which should not be US troops BTW.
What's a no-fly zone going to do with zillions of drones flying all over the place?
NATO needs to bomb the sh_t out of any Russian forces in Ukraine.

It's because they're waiting for Da Plane of Peace to land on Fantasy Island. LOL

I agree, I don't believe Putin is serious about peace in Ukraine.
He's not. He said on Russian TV at the start of the war he wanted to consolidate countries into something like the old Soviet Union; that's what this war is about.

The US and the UK threw substantial non-human military aid to Ukraine for 3 years while the Euro countries just stood around hoping it would stop Putin and they wouldn't have to do that much. I don't think we should let that happen with American boots on the ground in a piecemeal forever war.

I am a Desert Storm-era Navy guy who volunteered to serve in a military that was committed to a post-Vietnam win-with-overwhelming-force culture and strategy. I just see boots on the ground in Ukraine as going back to that Vietnam War culture that was costly in hardware and lives and lasted forever. The other thing is that Ukraine is still in one of the most corrupt regions of Eastern Europe. The UAF made the most gains right after Trump won the election and they thought the aid was going to be cut off. I just think we should stop military aid and let the NATO countries backfill the gap to find out the volume of aid that we actually really need to give.

I agree with all of that. Especially with no US troops involved part.

Russia or its proxies are flying surveillance drones over routes that the United States and its allies use to ferry military supplies through eastern Germany, collecting intelligence that could be used to bolster the Kremlin’s sabotage campaign and assist its troops in Ukraine, according to U.S. and other Western officials.

U.S. and German officials have been discussing Russian sabotage efforts, including information that led to the arrest in May of three Ukrainian men accused in a Russia-linked plot, the officials said.

The Russian sabotage campaign has led to fires at warehouses in Britain, an attack against a dam in Norway, attempts to cut cables under the Baltic Sea and an array of operations intended to bring the war in Ukraine closer to the heart of Europe and to undermine support for Kyiv.
This really isn't going to end well.

I don't understand Hungary's support of Russia. I was stationed there (in Tszar) for 8 months in 1997 and the Hungarians I encountered absolutely loathed the Russians. The base we lived on was a former Russian (Soviet) air base and we had contact with many people who had dealt with the Russians. It was not uncommon when in a conversation with a Hungarian that anytime they said the word "Russian" they would stop and spit.

hungary has gone authoritarian under viktor orban and how he wants to control his country mirrors how putin operates. humans are easy to manipulate and forget the past.
