Gamecocks win 40-17 over the Florida Gators! Gamecocks improve to 5-4, 2-4 on the season, with the most points scored against the Gators in the longtime series history. It may be the one "win that wasn't expected" that the Gamecocks need to get back on the bowl bid track for the season, with struggling Missouri and Clemson still ahead on the schedule. The Gators fall to 4-5, 2-5.
The Gamecocks put up 40 points and 459 total yards of offense on the Gators. Jason Brown was 14-24 for 175 yds, 2 tds and 0 ints for his first official start as a Gamecock QB. Josh Vann was Brown's primary passing target, as he had 7 receptions on 9 targets for 111 yds and 1 td. TE Nick Muse had 4 catches on 6 targets for 38 yds, and Traevon Kenion had a lone catch for 18 yds. Jaheim Bell had 2 catches for 8 yds and a touchdown.
Brown had a lot of help from the running game: Kevin Harris led the way with 128 yds on 16 carries (8.0 ypc), ZaQuandre White added 111 yds on 13 carries (8.5 ypc), and MarShawn Lloyd added 46 yds on just 7 carries (6.6 ypc). Juju McDowell had 6 yds on 3 carries, but scored the lone rushing touchdown for the corps. Altogether the Gamecocks rushed for 284 yds.
The Gamecocks now prepare to hit the road again to the "other" Columbia in Missouri, to take on the Tigers (4-5, 1-4). The Tigers lost to Georgia today 43-6. Hopefully the team takes a lot of confidence from this game, and continues the good play.....
