GAMECOCKFANATICS OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD: South Carolina vs North Carolina

Rico not ready to hand the starting spot to Feaster just yet.  Three straight productive plays for the senior.

 
We stalled out at 2nd and 7 at the UNC 15-yd line, with a pass completion for no gain, and a incomplete pass. The FG is good however, and the Gamecocks take the first lead of the game, 3-0 with 11:30 to play in the 1st Qtr......

Tarheels start hot with a 23-yard rush, but a false start and a tackle for loss on back-to-back plays got them at a 2nd and 18......

two rushes for 33 yds get UNC down into deep Gamecock territory. They are gashing our defense early....

The Gamecock defense holds firm, and holds the Tarheels to a FG. They tie the game 3-3, 5:58 left in 1st Qtr....

Fret not fellow Gamecocks! Alabama is still tied with Duke 0-0 with under 4 minutes to play in the 1st, and Tennessee is tied with Georgia State 7-7 under 4 minutes to go in the 1st as well.....

 
USC defense is stronger here - a 2-yd rush, an incomplete pass, and then a 4-yd rush forces UNC to 4th down deep in their territory. They punt it away - to Edwards, who takes it 27 yards to the UNC 38. An illegal formation penalty on UNC moves the Gamecocks closer to the UNC EZ to 1st and 10 on the Tarheel 33 -yard line!!!

Back-to-back false starts by the USC OL pushes Gamecocks back. They will most likely punt on 4th and 10, but that's the end of the 1st Quarter. We take the Quarter break and head into the 2nd Qtr. up 10-3, with the ball at 4th and 10 on the UNC 36 yd line.....

Tarheels again move down the field, but the Gamecocks defense holds them at the USC 30-yd line, with a QB sack by Sterling. UNC tries for a 47-yard field goal, and it's BLOCKED by Kinlaw!!! Gamecocks hold!!!

 
Gamecocks helped by some UNC defensive penalties, but stall out with a Tarheel sack of Bentley at the UNC 22-yd line. White tries for the 39-yd field goal - IT'S GOOD! Gamecocks extend their lead, but we need to start scoring touchdowns, not field goals.....

Note of the game: Dakereon Joyner has been targeted twice and caught both passes, for 4 yards....

Tarheels drive the length of the field, but once again our defense holds them near the goal line to just a field goal. If we could start scoring touchdowns, we'd pull away. But thus far, both teams seem to be able to move the ball within the 20s, then sputter out.....

UNC’s defense knows Bentley isn’t going to run, they’re dropping 8 guys into coverage on passing downs.

 
Gamecocks get the ball and a 7-yd pass to Feaster sets up a short 2nd down, but we aren't able to convert, and have to punt the ball back to UNC, who gets the ball with 39 seconds left in the 1st half. But we hold UNC, and they punt it back to us with only 17 ticks left. Nothing happens after that, and we go into halftime leading by 7...
