GAMECOCKFANATICS OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD: South Carolina vs North Carolina

It just royally pisses me off when we walk off the field with the ball, and timeouts still left.

 
SEC scores:

#2 Alabama leads Duke 14-3 at the start of the 3rd Qtr.

Tennessee is leading Georgia State 17-14 at the half

Arkansas leads Portland State 10-6 late in the 2nd Qtr.

Kentucky beat Toledo 38-24

Ole Miss falls to Memphis 15-10

Mississippi State defeats Louisiana 38-28

And of course, earlier in the week Florida edged Miami 24-20, and Texas A&M routed Texas State 41-7

 
Tarheels start the 2nd half on offense. Two incomplete passes and a false start pushes UNC back 3rd and 15. A QB SACK by KINLAW!!! Wonnum also bringing the pressure. Gamecocks receive the punt at mid-field, backed up 10 yds on a holding penalty. Still great field position to start.....

 
Gamecocks are not able to capitalize on the solid field positioning, and are forced to punt the ball on 4th and 9. Charlton flubs the punt, and a illegal procedure penalty gives great field position right back to UNC.......

 
Tarheels continuing to run the ball down our throats. I'm not seeing much that's improved from last season there, but it's the first game I know. UNC down to goal to go.

We hold again, forcing a Tarheel field goal. But they are out-playing us on both sides of the ball right now.....

Huge kick-off return by Shi Smith 60 yards to UNC 36!!! A big pass completion to TE Markway for 15 yds to convert a 1st down. Then a BOOM 22-yard pass completion to Markway again for TOUCHDOWN!!!

UNC drives the field again, the meat of it off of a 25-yard pass. But the next play, the Tarheel QB Howell was SACKED by Horn, ball fumbled out and RECOVERED BY KINLAW!! Defense keeps making the big play....

 
Gamecocks get hamstrung on their possession by a holding penalty on Stanley, pushing the offense back to 1st and 25. They were unable to convert from there, but Charleton's punt is downed at the UNC 2 yard line......

 
...and then the Tarheels negate the deep field position with a 20-yard gallop on first play. Geeze......

10-yard pass play....

8-yard run play.....

...and we go to the 4th Quarter, with Tarheels banging on the door, 2nd and 2 on the USC 29 yd line....

Start of 4th quarter, and a 7-yd rush, and a 22-yd pass play for touchdown. Two-point conversion is also good. A totally worthless defensive possession for the Gamecocks that time. We were gashed heavily on every play that drive.....

Gamecocks pick up one 1st down, but drive stalls there, and we punt away. Momentum all in UNC's pockets now. We are in very bad trouble right now. Charleton's punt backs the Tarheels back on their 5-yd line again - let's see if we give up another 20+ yard gain here....

Nope, it was a 2-yd loss on a run play. Good job there, DJ Wonnum.....

Then a 8-yard run play, and then a 31-yard pass play. crap.........

damn....23-yard pass play....

our defense isn't even tangible right now.....

Tarheels take the lead of the game on a 17-yard touchdown pass. I wish we had this Sam Howell as our quarterback.....

Gamecocks go 3 and out. Not good there. We seem to be conceding the game.

But then the USC defense holds the Tarheels into punting. Gamecocks get the ball again, with 4:22 to go and all 3 time outs....

 
So now our offense is boiled down to Bentley not being able to make throws, both Dowdle and Feaster are now getting 2 and 3 yds per carry, and now we're even trying to get Bentley to run for some yardage, because we don't have an offense that can make pass plays down the field. It's all short short short, and the UNC defense is tightening down on the box....

UNC pass interference gives USC more life....

Edwards had one reception to start the game, and then has been targeted 6 times since, with no catches.....

Bentley throws an interception.......

sigh......

I don’t even have words this one really hurts.  Not normally emotional about wins and loses but this one really stings.  Bentley looked like a freshman at the close of the game when it really mattered.
