TOP 5 - TJ Shook with a good inning of work with little help from those behind him. Cleanup hitter Baughman singles to right field. Highfill hits a ground ball to third that Olson has to dive to smother. He makes a good throw to Campbell at second, and he just flat drops it. Runners advance on a pitch that got away from Berryhill that probably shouldn't have. It was up though. Single through the right side. One in, runner from second is held. Proves to be costly. Gray Betts, one of my former Canes guys, pinch hits but goes down on strikes. Shook then Ks guy looking to end the inning. He's hype when he comes off the mound. Carolina leads 9-7
BOTTOM 5 - Eyster leads off the inning with a single through the left side, but he's cut down at second on a slow roller to short by Holladay. Throw to first is wild, which keeps there from being a double play. Neville up and goes ahead in the count 3-1. And he ends up walking. Campbell hits a ground ball back up the middle. Shortstop makes the play, flips to second, but Campbell beats out the relay throw. Kingston comes out and challenges whether or not the second baseman was on the bag for the throw. Call stands. And Allen goes quickly behind in the count 0-2. Make that 0-3. Carolina leads 9-7.
TOP 6 - Cam Tringali, a redshirt freshman, in for his first career appearance. Gives up a single and wild pitch to top-of-the-order hitter Embry. But then Ks Galazin. After issuing a walk to Mathieu, he gets a routine 6-4-3 double play ball. Campbell had some trouble handling the ball on the exchange from his glove, but got the ball over to first in time. Carolina leads 9-7.
Noah has started the season going 0 for 10 at the plate. Hopefully he figures it out soon. We're going to need his offense, and getting on base to set the table....
After Berryhill's homerun, Olson was walked, Perez was HBP advancing Olson to 2B, Olson then moves up to 3B on a wild pitch, then Eyster hits a sac fly that scores Olson.
13-7 USC.
Holladay singles, and Perez advances to 2B. Now Liberty is going to their bullpen. It's still the bottom 8th, 2 outs. This has been a very long game, with lots of runs, walks, and pitching changes. That stuff always drags out the games....
