STORYLINES FOR THE GAME

Culture vs. climate: Both teams were entangled in a short-lived internet controversy in August, when some believed a Mark Stoops remark was a shot at Shane Beamer’s viral SEC Media Days video. Both coaches have since downplayed the incident, but Saturday is the first time the teams will match up since that moment.

Wildcats’ dominance over USC: Kentucky has won seven of the last eight games against South Carolina, all under Stoops. The last time South Carolina won in Lexington was in 2012, under Steve Spurrier.

Will Levis’ health: Levis is considered by many as a top-five quarterback prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft. He threw for just 102 yards against South Carolina last season in Columbia. He’s considered questionable to play with an injury.

Correcting road woes: USC has struggled on the road in the last few seasons. It hasn’t won an SEC road game since beating Vanderbilt in 2020.

Three in a row?: The Gamecocks haven’t won three games in a row since 2017. If the team wins on Saturday, it would be the first three-game winning streak of Beamer’s coaching career.

UK looks to bounce back: The Wildcats lost a close game against Ole Miss last week, as Levis was stripped of the ball in Kentucky’s last possession. Saturday serves as Kentucky’s chance to rebound against a USC team looking for its first SEC win this season.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR LEXINGTON, KY

Lexington is forecast to be cool with temperatures in the mid-50s to start the game Saturday night and ending in the upper 40s. Skies will be clear with a low chance of precipitation.

South Carolina is a 7-point underdog against No. 13 Kentucky, according to VegasInsider.com.
 
Surprised of the 7-pt. spread. Kentucky has not run well thus far, but our own run defense is not strong, and opponents with strong passing offenses have kicked us around on the fields thus far this season. Even Arkansas' QB who did not throw a ton - he is a dual threat - was still 18-21 against us through the air. I would love to be proven wrong though, all the way to us winning the whole thing, but this will be tough: we are currently 0-5 in SEC road games in the Beamer Era........
 
The UK losses have always been about us being so bad rather than the Wildcats being that good.

This, Rattler has to not lose this game... that being said the WR have to go get it, the RB's have to go get it and the defense has to go get it. Curious to see how much smash mouth versus spread we play, they give up 4yp carry and 10yds per pass completion at 66.5%

UK QB WILL LEVIS IN WALKING BOOT Kentucky quarterback Will Levis was spotted in a walking boot in the Wildcats pregame walk. Backup QB Kaiya Sheron is expected to start if Levis can’t play. Levis was seen in a sweatsuit and talking on the field with USC head coach Shane Beamer, the (Lexington) Herald-Leader’s Jon Hale reported.
 
South Carolina is a 4-point underdog, according to VegasInsider’s consensus line. The line was near 10 points in favor of the Wildcats to start the week, dropping to 6 and 7 points by midweek over reports of Levis’ injury status. The over-under for points scored in the game is 45.5.

South Carolina could be without an important offensive piece on Saturday at Kentucky. Running back Christian Beal-Smith was wearing a boot and riding a scooter earlier this week It’s not clear whether Beal-Smith made the trip to Lexington, but he was not with the team when they disembarked the buses at Kroger Field. It wasn’t immediately known if it was the same foot injury that sidelined him in the summer and to start the season.
 
So Kentucky's starting QB will not play, or he at least did not start the game.

First possession to Kentucky, as South Carolina kicks off to open the game. First play is a fumbled rush that's recovered by South Carolina's Tonka Hemingway at the UK 2 yd line!!! Gamecocks punch it in by Lloyd! Gamecocks take the lead 7-0! A great start!
