*** MBB 18-12 South Carolina vs 10-20 Vanderbilt GAME THREAD***

AJ Lawson is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.    I don't think any pro team will want him.

Minaya has hurt his sore thumb.   Couinard commits another brilliant foul.

If USC had Vandy's guards, they would already be in the NCAAT.   Our guard play has cost us an NCAA bid.

cut it to 4 and like i just posted another awful defensive possession ends up in a layup then an unncessary foul by lawson 30 feet from the basket.  youve got it to 4, keep them in front of you and make them make a contested shot.  is that so hard?  instead we're still out here scrambling like we're down 20.  we cant be this dumb.

Playing out the string now. This game is already over. Horrible preparation of the team for this game - just keep doing the same thing game after game after game. People gripe about the officiating, but this team is coached to be very physical and coached to body up and make contact with opponents game after game, and some officials are just not going to allow it go free....
WHAT? Coach Martin does not teach you to reach or to jump into the offensive player and it is ridiculous for the refs to call the fouls they call but allow moving screens as well as Pippen and Lee to use their off hand to get fouls called. We are behind the 8 ball based on the inability to hit the 3 and stupid turnovers, not the Coaching of Frank Martin!

I’ve only seen about 7-8 minutes of this game, and I know from the commentary that the officiating has interesting, to say the least.  But what the heck?  EVERY call has been odd.  For BOTH teams.  Fouls called for nothing and no calls for HARD fouls.  What gives?

cut it to 4 with 2:28 left then proceeded to not even make them sweat, nothing but layups and trips to the line.  complete choke job

Gamecocks lose at Vanderbilt 74-83. A bad, bad loss. I guess at least we succeed in shutting off all the possibility talk, and gets us to focus on the NIT. May quiet a good bit of the noise for the team.....

Don't take the NIT for granted.    We'll likely lose our first SECT game.

That is Frank's fault for not adjusting to the way the game is called.   He wants the officials to adjust instead of him, and they aren't doing it.

Agree totally. That is in essence the biggest calling card Frank Martin brings to the table, for ANY team he is head coach of. He teaches and preaches a heavy, hard body-contact physical style of defense - it forces opponents to fall out of their rhythm and gets them flustered, and it intimidates the officials into having to dictate how games will go by calling fouls on all the play. Some officials (most of them LOL) are ego-maniacs themselves, so they either take offense at what Martin tried to force them to (not) do, or they decide they need to make an example of Martin and his teams (Gamecocks), so they start calling his bluff and call a TON of fouls.

But it is a bluff by Martin - his whole act of screaming and making faces on the sidelines is as much of an act for the officials as it is for his players, to intimidate them into looking the other way with his physical defense, and allowing games to ugly down as a result. When the officials learn about the schtick, and refuse to be intimidated, and start calling all the fouls, that's the game.

But that's all Martin has - that's what he brought his 1st year at USC, and if he's our HC for another 10 years, that's what his teams then will be doing....

final tally from our 3 best shooters, 1-13 from 3, 2 assists 7 turnovers.  first game against vandy they went 5-12 from 3 and had more assists than turnovers.

He's just trying to be a South Carolina Gamecock fan, and have hope. It's hard enough without being called out for it.....
I'm very familiar with how hard it is to be a Gamecock fan.    Frankly, I'm getting tired of butting my head against a wall.  I've been very disappointed with USC basketball for 40 years, except for the Final Four year.

Vandy was the better team today.  More energy and better decisions throughout.  Kida looked like all the guys were waiting for someone else to take over and nobody really ever did.  Very tough game to watch.
