Optimism

Honestly, I didn’t want to be in the place I’m at today with my football team.  I wanted to be mad and doubting.  Deep down inside I knew I’d be curious, and full of doubt, the sat morning of opening day.  I KNEW deep down inside that I’d put my #21 jersey on, with my favorite players name on the back, and watch the game……..on opening day with a touch of optimism.  Well………here I am……3 days before opening day and I’m ready to go!  I’ve bought into the hopium.  I’m excited and ready to go.  I don’t think our season is going to be too fulfilling, but at the same time I’m not set up to have my heart broken……again!

So let’s go out and show that the optimism displayed here on this thread by the biggest, doubting, never abandon the Gamecocks,  Homers till the end fans.  I’m ready to go.  I still think we don’t win a bunch but I believe we shall see a new attitude.  Not an attitude of what uniform we wear, but badass, never quit, dedicated young men who will bring us back with optimism and grit not seen before.

Go Get’m boys…..

Really hate it bad for the Taters...not.

So I went to check out Taternet after the loss.  Look at the ad that popped up at the top of football board page:

I then hit F5 to refresh the page and got the "page cannot be found" error.  There's yer sign of how things will go in November.

Sports have always given the good people of Columbia, South Carolina reason to rally and no matter what school you're cheering for, here you'll find that game days become full-fledged weekends for locals and visitors alike. From top-notch tailgates, quintessential Southern food and so much to see and do around town, sports fans of all ages can look forward to exploring this capital city with a college town vibe beyond the main event.

The iconic quote, "If It Ain't Swayin', We Ain't Playin'," was first spoken by Joe Morrison in 1983 when the then-new east upper deck was swaying by as much as a foot during an especially exciting game. Since then, shock absorbers have been added to the deck, but it's still known to (safely) sway every now and then when the crowd gets hyped.

After Saturday my optimism still stands firm.  I know we played a weaker opponent, in that we still did what we should do.  They covered the spread and went into halftime with a convincing lead.  Their was no need to play the starters in the second half, aside from a few coachable moments the game went as it should have.

I’m pretty down on this team from top to bottom.  Optimism, sure, I’ll have some when we play a touch better than we did last season.

We've already won as many games this season as last....

I was pleased with some of the flashes we showed.  Consistency is a must before we can take another step, but there's clearly talent to be mined in this cohort.  Good signs on offense, good signs on defense; we just have to tighten up and play to our potential to be good.  Maybe with a couple more good recruiting classes we could be better than just good.

Yep!  No reason to be down. We got whipped, but we didn’t quit.  Stupid mistakes cost us, but they were bigger, faster, and more talented.  It won’t be that way for long.

Tough loss. Never had any illusions that there wouldn't be days like this in this season.

Yeah tough game. I think toughest of the season. The taters are not what they used to be and are beatable. Not saying we will win against them, but they are not UGA.

While I hoped for better yesterday, I saw pretty much what I expected.  UGA is a top 5 team and there was no way they were letting a mediocre team eff up their season like we did in 2019.  My biggest concern is our OL.  I do think the DL of UGA is one of the best in the nation, but we have to play better on the OL.  The coaching staff needs to work on our OL pronto.

I like this staff so far and I know we need to keep recruiting.  The last 2-3 years of SOS and the years of Muschamp really buried this program IMO.  Beamer will dig us out, but it will take more than 3 games.

That UGA team will be in the discussion for the NC at the end of the year; we won 2 games last season. Play the long game and don't get too caught up in these blowouts, which were bound to happen and are part of the process.

Yep could not agree more. Well put.

Ironically I think the blueprint against us is the same as it is against Clemson.  Stack the box and make us prove we can beat you over the top.  Until we develop a consistent passing game, we will have a hard time moving the ball, which will also make our OL look worse than they are.  Beamer knows this and that is why he is relaying to Satt to take some shots.  I think if Doty can run like he is capable of when healthy, this will add another element the D has to account for and may loosen up some of the running lanes.  I am encouraged with the pressure our D has been able to bring and hope that continues to develop.  Look for Kentucky to stack the box Saturday and challenge us to throw it.

We might lose out or maybe we'll run over our opponents with the love bus.  Stranger things have happened, I guess.

Maybe Shirley Partridge will finally learn how to use the chrome horn, eh?  LOL
