Optimism

I can't base this on any fact, but I just feel that we will be .500 or slightly above this year.  I have no insider information or anything of the sort, but with the amount of work, preparation, and enthusiasm that seems to be happening in the program, I have a hard time believing that it won' t translate to some wins on the field.  We should have a pretty good OL, and we should have a pretty formidable DL, as long as the players are coached and motivated properly.  We finally have some depth on the lines, so that should help a lot.  We know that Coach Lembo will improve the Special Teams, and that alone could add another win to the list. Coach Beamer has impressed at everything he has done so far, so if he follows through, and he and the staff can coach as well as everything else they have done, I see no reason why we shouldn't be at .500 or slightly better at the end of the season. He has strategically added players to the team via the transfer portal, in positions we needed.  I think he handled the situation of not having time to build a recruiting class, and filling in positions of need like a champ.  If he can hold on to the recruits that are committed, and we have a winning season, imagine what the next recruiting class will be like.

I hope that Carolina truly is his dream job, because if he does what he appears to be capable of, there will be a lot of schools calling on him in a few years.
If his Dad hadn't have been a coaching lifer who basically stayed at one school for his entire career, and who never seemed to have any regrets about that fact (even when Alabama came calling, as did USC), I would call it a sound bite. But given that, it holds more weight to me coming from him.

I am cautiously optimistic while fully understanding that we have some rebuilding and growing to do and a long way to go before we get to where we need to be but I just saw two guys on some SEC related feed claim the Gamecocks should expect to go 2-10 this year...excuse my French but...Dafuq?!?

We will not go 2 for 4 against Eastern Illinois, East Carolina...who is going to be much improved, Troy and Vandy and then get blanked the rest of the way. I'll take this bet right now.
Probably saw the same thing with Dennis Dodd and someone else on cbssports.

But same I don’t know that we will go to a bowl game but 2 wins…cmon men!

The pundits are probably going conservative with their predictions for us because Shane is unproven as a HC, but I believe the naysayers will come around once we start getting the wins.

The other thing is not that we have lost but how we lost, i.e., non-competitive.

Shane tends to hyper-talk a lot, but that's because he's detail-oriented and confident.  He says we have gotten some good recruits, but admits they are unproven, just like he is as a head coach.

Shane is a good person who cares about his players as human beings, but he is also super-competitive and out to prove himself as a HC.  Our players will feed off of Shane's personality.  I believe Shane is that textbook new coach who gets better performance out of a previous coach's recruits right away in his first season.

I don't think predictions mean a lot for our program right now.

I still get a kick, that he includes himself with SC football..."hopefully Shane Beamer and these guys can get us there" [referencing a top 10 program].
