Running Backs Coach Wish List

This is a very important hire and one I'm confident Shane will make an informed decision. Our running backs depth is in pretty good shape so I hope we can get a coach as good as our previous coach. Nothing like running out the clock in the 4th quarter by imposing your will in the ground game.

I know that you hate you some Bobby Bentley, but he was a good recruiter if nothing else.
I hate the person as much I hate him as much as I hate the idea of hiring someone to get their son to go to school here. His career as a college coach has been a failure, by objective measures. It's always hard to say how influential someone is on the recruiting trail, but he didn't seem to be bad at it. Telling that he wasn't retained, though?

Agreed - also telling that the best gig he could get after leaving was as WR coach at USF.

Looked around (online) but big quality names just for RN Coaches seem to be thin. Everyone is set or just made a move it seems. I am sure there are a few hidden gems SB knows about.

Here is the only one I found.

Ra' Shaad Samples SMU, Running Back Coach/Recruiting Coordinator (25): Samples saw his on-field career end early due to injuries, but he’s thrived in the time since as a coach. The former four-star recruit joined Houston’s staff in an off-field role in 2016 and 2017 working with running backs, receivers and QBs. Texas hired him in 2018 as an assistant wide receivers coach, where he drew rave reviews as a recruiter. Last year, SMU brought him back home to the DFW area where he’s since emerged as one of the American’s top overall recruiters. The son of Dallas-area coaching legend, Reginald Samples, Ra’Shaad earned a promotion this off season to running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. Samples currently sits second in the AAC recruiter rankings.

Nope, I thought he was a pretty good High School coach. I don't have a clue why he didn't do well at the college level.
I have no idea why he didn't do well either. We've just tried him out and he's simply not a good coach. I'm sure he's a fine person so I don't see the need to run his name in the mud, but the RBs here got a lot better despite injuries when he stopped coaching them.

Part of the issue is that all these hires are dependent on the dominoes that have fallen both up the chain and down the chain from open positions like ours. For example, our beloved Duce has left an open RB coach slot on the Eagles, a very good job. One of the guys rumored to open for that job is Cadillac Williams, the RB coach for Auburn. So anyone considering our open slot may also be stalling waiting to see if that slot opens up as well... and on and on it goes.

I could easily get behind this.

Agreed

The recruiting staff seems to be a pretty good young group.  Hopefully, they are able to make an impact for 2022.

Per Footballscoop - Marques Hagans top choice:

Per sources with direct knowledge, Hagans now is first-year South Carolina coach Shane Beamer’s top choice for the Gamecocks’ running backs coach.

This is a name that never crossed my mind, he is a former QB and the current wide receivers coach at UVA. I'd love to have him but why would he want to come to SC and coach our running backs?
