Glad to see some of the famously hot Soda City weather move out of here for a while.

I know they are, too.

CSB is working hard.  I love that he is able to run with his players through drills.  He may be the most fit of any head coach we've had...dinging Coach Spurrier just because of his age when he was here.

Coach Beamer’s post-scrimmage presser. He talks about QB Luke Doty’s injury, his expectation for Doty’s return to the team, and how the back-up QBs did in today’s (Saturday’s) first scrimmage of the fall camp:

In the scrimmage, Saint Francis transfer Jason Brown took the majority of snaps, but per Beamer that’s no indicator at this time that Brown is the de facto replacement for Doty. Right now all available QBs are in contention for the starting spot. Redshirt Sophomore Connor Jordan and freshman Colten Gaulthier also got good snaps in. Former QB and current WR Dakereon Joyner also will have packages behind center this season, but will still predominantly be at WR.

Asked to address the Karon Prunty situation: Beamer stated that Prunty was “dealing with some personal issues, and felt that being somewhere else was what he needed at this time”. Staff talked with Prunty and his family, but ultimately wants him to be where he will be happy. Beamer talked up Marcellas Dial. Beamer called Dial “maybe the most impressive guy we’ve had on our defense this entire preseason camp, so glad that we got him. He’s been really, really, really, really good for us on the backend.” Dial has been practicing as the CB1 at one side, with a rotation of several options at the other side (projected starting CB Cam Smith suffered a broken foot – Coach Beamer stated he’s still optimistic for Smith being available to play for the opening game versus Eastern Illinois).

Coach Beamer stated that injured starting RB Kevin Harris could begin practicing as soon as next week, but if not he’s still expected to be ready to go by the start of the season.
Beamer was really high on WR Jaylen Brooks on explosive passing plays. Also named Joyner and Josh Vann as their “top 3 receivers”. Also mentioned OrTre Smith.

Defensive tackle Rick Sandidge, WR Trey Adkins, and OL Hank Manos “got banged up a little bit” during the scrimmage. “Haven’t heard anything, don’t think it’s anything serious, but those were the only issues today,” Beamer said.

I expect Shane to put a good team around any QB that starts for us, whoever that may be.
