The VENT thread

I said something similar earlier this year, and it bears repeating. It is time for a "come to jesus" meeting with Muschamp. I have long suspected that something like that happened with Dabo up in tater town. They were in a situation where they could not afford to get rid of him, so somebody took control from him and put the best assistants around him to manage the actual coaching part. (Once again, just conjecture on my part.) The same thing needs to happen with Muschamp. He needs to be made a figurehead until either the team starts winning or he can be replaced.

And once it is time for him to be shown the door, we need to stop pussyfooting around with these coaching hires. No AARP members, and no up and comers. We need to find somebody who is winning somewhere with few resources and give him an offer he cannot refuse. Between now and then, we need a wholesale mindset from everyone with any kind of pull within the university to win at all costs.
I'm in the upstate, and have contacts with a number of people "in the know" about the cow town, and that is exactly what they said was done. We need to have someone  sit down with Muschamp, and give him an ultimatum of here it is, do it. If I was Tanner, I would get in front of this, and be able to announce a new coordinator as soon as the season's over. No options, no choices, just here is the plan. Get a new OC, spend the $1.5-2MM to get a good one that is already successful with a higher powered offense, preferably with dual threat QB's. They take pressure off of the O-line, and give a running game a shot in the arm. we have one, and another one coming in next year; so it would play to our talent. If not, we need a stud running back, which we haven't had in 4 years.

I'm really not sure that highing B-Mac wasn't Muschamp trying to keep someone from challenging him on the way he wanted to run the offense, so he cut Roper, and brought in a newbie. I think BMac was thrown into the deep end, and is having to follow Muschamp's plan. That being said, I would go for a new DC, and limit Muschamp to the special teams and recruiting, and tell him to keep his hands off the coordinators. If he bolts, no payout. If he stays, and we start seeing progress, then we save $4MM per year.

Well there are certainly some similarities with regard to Dabos early situation and Muschamp.  I think it’s clear Muschamp is building a formidable defense much like Clemson had on offense.  Whether Dabo was told how to run his program or not he went and got Venables and quickly became relevant.  I think this is where we are.  One side of the ball is getting good and the other is floundering.

I think that conversation needs to be had with Muschamp and that he will need help or even major oversight into finding the right OC.  I don’t think it’s a decision that can be left up to Will to make on his own accord.

Where on Dabo’s staff do they put Muschamp after next year?  Brad got Tight ends didn’t he?

Denny Crane
Probably defensive ends - that would make it where bad gamecock coaches go to "end" their career!

Blame the coordinators if you want but I think the problem is with the HC. He is the common denominator at both Fla and USC. The coordinators were not.

Don't compare this guy to Dabo. Dabo went from a statue (Boyd) in the pocket to an RPO guy in Watson. He recognized and ensured that the scheme was changed to max Watson's skill set and the rest is history. Now he is back to a semi-pocket QB in Lawrence but he can also RPO if needed. Dabo has shown he's flexible and want to win with the talent they recruit at that position. Some were upset when he sat Bryant but so far it's paying dividends for his team.

Even SOS reluctantly allowed Shaw to RPO and it paid off. With Chump, we put an RPO guy in and expect him to pro style it. That's dumb and does not to work. You mess with kids heads when they come expecting to play QB but were not provided an environment to compete. Teams with RPO programs don't play pro style QBs because it doesn't make a lot of sense either.

Looks like we have Dumb and Dumber running our program these days.

This coaching staff has me totally baffled. How the hell did we beat Georgia? Our first game against UNC was in the bag until we gave it away. Charleston Southern was a nice practice day. Alabama could have been a lot more interesting if not for the holding call on the fake punt. We had better players than Missouri but were outcoached. After beating Kentucky I thought maybe we had turned things around only to find out that Kentucky was going to get beat by everybody. Then the unexplicable miracle in Athens. We were suddenly back in the hunt for the SEC East.....until the still unexplained officiating calls or lack of against Florida. Then the wheels really start to fall off in Knoxville against a team that couldn't beat anybody with a pulse and in danger of losing their new coach until we gave him a signature win. This is when I lost all faith in Muschamp and company. We pick up the automatic W against Vandy then lose what everyone was sure another automatic W to App State. We were outcoached and manhandled by the Sunbelt team. With a serious coaching staff we could've been 9-1 this week with our only loss to Alabama. Instead we are 4-6 with two automatic L's coming up.

The recruiting has been good. We have the players to compete at a top 10 level. I don't want to hear about injuries or officiating, every team has to deal with those. Our fanbase is among the best in the country. Our facilities are top tier. But our coaching has been a trainwreck.

It is time for an overhaul...Muschamp would be a good recruiting coordinator.

The stadium  project come in to play here?

The BOT and AD will have to figure this is one out. It may come into play here. It will be the biggest elephants in the room for You can’t have 22+ million upgrades coming to the stadium without an excited fan base.

I think this is one of the reason's you will see a change if we lose to A&M and Clemson. Tanner will need to negotiate the buyout down some, but even if he can't, the drop in season ticket sales for next year and most likely the year after, and the inability to sell these suites will be a huge financial hit for the athletic department. Tanner is in a tough spot. 1. Keep Muschamp and take a huge hit in ticket sales, suite sales, and donations this offseason (boosters are not shelling out dollars for Muschamp year 5 and the Spurs Up Tour will be ghost events) or 2. Pay the $22 Millions buy-out. Either way the Athletic Department is going to take a hit. So if you are taking a hit, why not take one while selling the hope of the new guy?

This Chad Morris thing. Why do so many be high on him as OC? Plan as day he has failed as a HC and those offenses under him  WOW sucked as well. He had a little stay in Tater land where a few things fell into place with lots of talent on the team along with other good staff of coaches under his wings. He was a product of the system there. Next up there is doing well too. I just feel another last gasp effort here with him. Just me thinking here saying thanks but no thanks just another recycle going nowhere.

Cancel the stadium project and use that money for the buy out.

That being said...if Muschamp can pull a miracle and win even one of the next two...he could conceivably remain on life support for another year

Chad Morris PFFFT.  I would not mind having Chavis as a DC though if you are looking at anyone from that staff.

The loss of revenue from lack of ticket sales and donor levels will end up being more than the buyout to can Muschamp. I think the only thing to do now is as you mentioned, re-negotiate the buyout, fire RT too, and start from scratch.

I am torn on what is the best way to approach the problem.  Teams that bounce coaches every couple of years never get anywhere, but on the flip side, Muschamp has had 4 years, and as was said earlier, we are trending down, not up.  We should have seen an upturn in the level of play this year, based on how successfully rebuilding teams do, but, we all know how that turned out.

Muschamp looked completely lost on the sideline Saturday.  The expression on his face was not someone who is angry, or frustrated, he just looked absolutely clueless.

At bare minimum we need to bring in a proven, well-known, dynamic OC for next year, if not a complete start over.  I really hate the idea of starting over, and having to wait several more years for success, but it isn't any better the way it is now, either.  I'm so pissed!

I know my money is not much, especially when compared with the large donors, but I will probably drop my Gamecock Club membership this year.  I'm sick of paying for crap.

Man I know your concern and feel it. But after Saturday we will only sink lower and the bounce up will only get harder to do. I feel the time is right here and just maybe will see that reflected soon. Something could break anytime crew.

Are you saying that based on any info you have, or just a gut feeling?

You know I cannot answer that.  :animated-smileys-icons-007:  Just keep a ear open.
