Where is Hilinski really at?

I also think out OL is not pass blocking very well.  Yesterday in the 2nd half especially, it was meet me at the QB.  He was under pressure all game, but especially in the 2nd half.  Ryan has work to do, but he needs protection.

I think this too.  Freshmen QBs and porous offensive lines don’t go well together.  Add the fact that Hilinski is slowest running dude I’ve ever seen on a football field and it’s tough sledding

After the UT game, I'm starting to get concerned that Hilinski is looking like Bentley 2.0. He started out with good poise and accuracy and has now devolved into happy feet and sailing passes.

I'd like to excuse those things by saying "he's just a freshman" but I said that 4 years ago too. I'm starting to think we really suck at developing quarterbacks, even good ones.

I can't think of any reason for him to stay.
Exactly! He needs to move to a team where he will get some meaningful reps in a scheme that matches his style. If he stays here, he won't get it. Muschump has shown him that. Chump is stuck on stupid where QBs are concerned, he is not willing to make changes even when it is obvious that things at that aren't working. Successful coaches don't do that and that's why he has not been one.

I cannot really make an accurate assessment of this kid based on the terrible play of the OL.  He has shown that when he has the time he can make the throws, but he looks like he is pressing and throwing the ball too early  especially on the longer throws.  The blocking Saturday was terrible.  I am not sure what the answer is up front, we run block pretty well, but pass blocking we get our lunch handed to us.  Might be best to put Ulrich or Dak (if he is healthy) in there until they can get things figured out and let Ryan get fully healthy.  I am not really sure what to think anymore.  We need a real OC regardless of who is the head coach.

HBC did that. He transformed his FnG into a hybrid with the zone blocking type plays and a dual threat QB. We won lots of games with that offense.

I think being hurt plays into it - rushing his delivery to get to protecting his knee. I think a healthy Hilinski returns to his previous form and accuracy.
I agree with you here... being injured has a lot do to with it but also having a true freshman at RT who constantly gets beat at the LOS on pass plays is certainly hurting the pass game too. We don't offer another player to help block and the defense is basically getting free runs at RH.

We have a bunch of drops too by the receivers and TE and that crap has got to stop.  Hilinski would have thrown for 400+ yards and completed over 50% of his passes had we not had 8 drops this past weekend.  Also a lot of those were drive killers so we would go 3 and out and have the exhausted defense go back on the field.

They started using a TE to help with 19 but even then it didn't help every time. Dropped passes but RH was off a good bit as well. I believe he is much more injured than they are saying and a sore throwing elbow makes the ball feel like it is 5 lbs heavier. All that said they still had the lead coming out of the half, Ut just wanted that game more pure and simple and they went and got it. They outplayed and just beat SC up and down the field in the 2nd half

From what I saw Sat, RH is making throws that  you would expect out of a FR QB. Drops aside, many of his throws were too late or behind the WR just enough for UT to alter the play. I don't think injuries are really that big of a factor. You can place equal responsibility on the OC, the OL, and the QB. When all the pieces are there i think he's as good as any FR QB in the country.

would not be surprised if Joyner is transferring.
To where, and what position?

QB?

He hasn’t shown he can make any kind of throws consistently. In fairness to him his hamstring has held him back. That’s severely limited his ability to make plays with his feet.

At this point at QB best case scenario he’s Lorenzo Nunez with a worse arm. Hopefully he can get healed up and help the team in some way.

Then he shouldn't be playing. If the guy can't throw and he can't run, they WTH is he on the field?
There’s a huge difference between hurting and being injured.

If he had a significant injury the team doc wouldn’t be clearing him to play. Give the staff more credit than that.

Yes, he’s steuggling, but who else are you going to play in anything else than an emergency situation? Our one legged 3rd string QB is struggling, our untested 4th string QB (who’s apparently obviously still at WR for a reason), or a walk on?

Maybe our OL needs to stop impersonating turnstiles letting their true Freshman QB get treated like a worn out tackling dummy.

Interesting how some can say that Dak can't play but we never see him play, so the we don't have a real specimen to evaluate. Coming in during fire drill time and getting a limited play book doesn't allow for a real assessment. We saw the current product for the past two Saturdays and the end result wasn't very pretty. Other teams are making changes when things aren't working but I digress.

I also believe that some on this board would not consider Jalen Hurts or Justin Fields QB material at Carolina. The players know what's up, that's why they check out of games when they know plays can be had but Chump fails to make adjustments.

That might explain the 2nd half beat downs, which have returned. We are setting new USC records for 2nd half meltdowns extending back the past few seasons.

It's become a Muschamp trademark.

im not giving up on ryan, but the certainty that some have that he is the answer is the same certainty some had about jake when he was a freshman.  personally id like to see what joyner can do in extended action, but at the very least he needs to get some snaps to try and spark this offense.  right now ryan's flaws are being magnified, he's no help to the running game and on passing plays he cant avoid pressure, let alone extend plays or scramble.

We have seen Dak play. Now, that said I fully agree he was limited with his hamstring against UGA. He did a good job managing the game, not making mistakes. But seeing him before the UGA game he still struggles with his throws.

It doesn’t matter how much of the playbook they give you, you still have to execute. He’s had the same issues Ryan has had, he’s been off on simple throws that would keep us out of 2nd and long, 3rd and long situations.

I think his running ability is something that would definitely add to his game, he just hasn’t had the chance to really use his legs and stretch defenses. When the D knows the QB isn’t going to run and is struggling even hitting checkdown receivers, they’re going to pin their ears back putting more pressure on some of our young OL.

I’d take Hurts or Fields in a skinny minute. Who wouldn’t?

And calling our HBC “Chump” is just a bad look....the guy’s doing everything he can to win.

Jim, I think it’s just a reflection of lack of quality depth.

We have some good players, they’re just getting worn down. We’re not at the point yet where we can swap players in/out at most positions without a drop off in talent. DL is probably our deepest position, and even those guys are getting tired.
