2025 Portal Window

At 6'9" Mongolian Mike (his nickname) is definitely not undersized. From what I understand he plays a lot in the 3 and is an excellent perimeter defender, and can also get a rebound.

I like Mike.

My take on current roster depth:

G Ellis
G Johnson / Knox
W Sharavjamts / Stute / Polk
F Strong / Walker / Assemian
F Essandoko / Butler

I think so far we have improved our backcourt from last year; however, would still love to see a true PG get. Front court is still a little suspect at this time, but we still have 4 spots open where we can get some help. In addition to some bigs, it would also be nice to get another scorer, since Eaglestaff bailed. Glad to see Coach Paris still working the portal.

i like mike's game, i think he can be a capable spot up shooter and he shows an ability to create and pass which is something we sorely lacked period last year let alone from a 6'9 guy on the perimeter. ideally you have the scorers around him so he gets them easier shots but even as it stands now i think he makes us better on both sides of the floor. i also think he gives you enough ball handling that you can start meechie and knox in the backcourt or meechie and mike.

On paper it looks like we've got some good talent coming in. I was bearish on the 23/24 team and bullish on last year's team though, so what do I know?

just based on that little bit of tape i look at him as a better version of our previous pf commit elijah strong. i slot him in as the starting 4 and someone who can play a bj mack small ball 5 role. he's a below the rim player with a big body who can put the ball on the floor but profiles mostly as a stretch big. the plan looks to be playing 4 and 5 out next season so in that sense he fits.

the shooting percentages from a lot of the guys we've brought in arent great but they are willing shooters and they are improvements as shooters for the most part over what we had last year. put them all together with better spacing and hopefully everyone will end up with more open shots and better efficiency. i see the vision on offense if thats how we end up playing though there is that concern of not having a go to guy or consistent above average 3pt shooters.

Kapic reminded me of a taller Hayden Brown. Big motor, lots of hustle, seems comfortable handling and driving the ball, and also a pretty good passer. Kapic was a starter on a 30-5 men's basketball, that went to the NCAA tourney and lost by 3 points to Michigan. In the tourney, Kapic had 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists -- a good day at the office. I think he's a good fit, and see him as a probable starter.

I think Paris still has 4 scholarships spots available, I would love to see us get at least a true PG, a good center, and another good shooter to play in the 3 as sort of a small forward/swing role. Losing the consistent points that Eaglestaff could have brought to the team will hurt us if we can't find another true shooter.

Not portal, but new addition:

The men's team adds high school class of 2025 player, Abu Yarmah to it's incoming class for this fall. Yarmah is a 6'7", 175 freshman graduating from Moravian Prep and was a teammate of Eli Ellis. Yarmah originally committed to play at Highpoint, but swapped his commitment to the Gamecocks on Monday. It appears Eli was a strong factor in his recruiting switch.
