Corona virus, the non-asshole thread

Florida health officials on Friday logged 1,324 more COVID-19 fatalities since Jan. 28.

Florida's COVID-19 death toll stands at 66,279 residents, the state Health Department said Friday.

Wife and I are about a week and a half post Covid. I was vaxxed and my wife wasn't, but our symptoms were almost the same. She ran a fever, while I never did. We both had pretty bad congestion and cough. We're pretty much over it, but that cough is lingering for both of us and is just more annoying at this point. From talking with others that have had it, it seems like the cough might last for up to a month.

My sister has been sick with something but has tested negative 3 times. Last week she accidentally brushed her eye with a mascara pin and she had to go to the ER because it got inflamed pretty badly over the weekend. I guess this is pretty common with women and she's done it before without any eye issues.

She understood that Covid can cause eye issues in people with autoimmune issues, but she doesn't have any of those. My BIL's older stepson from a previous marriage has tested positive, too.

My sister still is sick with whatever she has, too. I was supposed to go visit my sister and BIL for my birthday, which was last Sunday, but am staying away for right now.

My best friend and his wife now have COVID...they made it this long and then went to a gymnastics meet last weekend and both came down with COVID...interesteingly she got it 3-4 days sooner than her husband

I'm always morbidly curious about those situations, wondering about the time differential. Different immune strength, different viral load exposure? Did the one spouse catch it at the gymnastics meet and then expose the other spouse at home? COVID sucks.

Disturbing....daily deaths right now are avg'g 2k/day from the Omicron.
Overwhelming those are the unvaxxed. So preventable.

I know someone who suffered a stroke six weeks after receiving his two Moderna shots last year. They put him on Eloquis and has recovered nicely without any major issues. He also got his booster after that as well.

He recently told me he tested positive for Covid (no idea where he got it from) and made it through it okay. I tend to believe the vaccine exposed other risk factors that led to his stroke and may possibly have saved his life.

I think we're getting to the point people will get out of pandemic mode and back to the point of normal doctor's visits and treatments, but we'll see if other sinister variants pop up down the road.

I personally am starting to ease back into a normal exercise routine and proper diet to lose weight and feel better.

“The protection that you are getting from the third, it is good enough, actually quite good for hospitalizations and deaths. It’s not that good against infections, but doesn’t last very long. But we are just submitting those data to the FDA and then we will see what the experts also will say outside Pfizer.”

Pfizer is working on a COVID shot that would work against all variants, including omicron, and maintain its effectiveness for a year, turning the booster into a yearly event like the flu shot.

I am already making plans to get my next booster in about 6 weeks to avoid the rush when people find out during the summer vacation period that the virus hasn't gone away.

I think a semi-annual booster will be a part of my life in the near future.
