Frank Is Gone

If Frank is getting fired, I’m loving it. I like people being held accountable for their actions and performance. Caslen is bringing a little real world to the athletic department. I’m hearing reported that Tanner will be gone by the start of football. No more excuses for coaches. No BS. Win or hit the bricks.

Yep, Caslen fired the Army football coach shortly after taking over there.  Army had lost 11 in a row to Navy IIRC.  Since Caslen fired that loser Army has won 3 out of 4.

It’s getting a little much with the political BS in here. Let’s stick to the real subject of basketball.

I would love to poll local players that USC lost in recruiting and get their reasons for not coming here. I have a feeling it has more to do with Coach Martin than any other factor. I think it's just that he's not the best of recruiters and that he has a bad reputation for being firey and hot-headed. Top 100 kids dream of the 1-and-done scenario and that goes against Frank Martin's philosophy and preaching, so I always have thought that may factor into the decisions made by these kids. Plus, the local kids and coaches see him screaming his head off during games. I bet kids from further away don't know anything about that or just see glimpses.

I'd like to know as well.

I read that Frank is scheduled to meet with Tanner on Monday.   We should know something sometime tomorrow.

I have suspected over the years that Frank really doesn't like Tanner that much because he may have kept him from disciplining his players the right way and, therefore, winning.

That might tend to explain some things with Muschamp as well.

If that's true, I hope Frank tells Tanner to shove it.  That may have been what Muschamp did as well for all we know.

That might would explain the prompt buy-out payment to Muschamp.

Frank shouldn't take any "deals".  He should just let himself get fired and get his 2 years of goodies.  Then watch Tanner retire this year after the baseball season is over.

This should be a very interesting week.

Knock it off guys with the politics and personal attacks. Keep it up and it's a 1 week ban.

If Boynton is unavailable/not interested in coming here I'd be in favor of giving BJ McKie a shot at HC.  He's currently an assistant coach at Wake Forest.

I really like the idea of Boynton...played at USC...coached at Furman, Coastal, Wofford and USC. I love his long term association with former assistant Brad Underwood who took him to Stephen F Austin and then OSU before leaving to take the job at Illinois...and now has the Illini in the big dance as a #1 seed. BTW...if you haven't seen him already do yourself a favor and check out Illinois Center Kofi Cockburn! Dude is a straight up MONSTER! 7 foot and 285 lbs of nothing but muscle out of Jamaica.

Boynton has done a great job of recruiting at OSU and with the right match-ups are going to give people some serious trouble in the NCAA Tournament this year. Freshman G Cade Cunningham is a absolute stud! 6'8" 220 lb. 5 star PG that could have gone anywhere in the country...it certainly helped that Boynton hired his brother as an Asst. Coach so obviously that has a little hair on it. The other G is Isaac Kikekele...he's 6'5' 220 and looks like a outside linebacker...only bigger. That OSU team is filled with athletes...only issue is that 75% of them are Guards...but when one is 6'8" and the other is 6'5" you can play with a lot of Guards.

That being said...I still make Anthony Grant tell me no first. But I could live with Mike Boynton...Welcome home!!

I could get behind Boynton and would not be upset by giving BJ a try.

I like Boynton and agree with offering (if/when there is an opening) but I just do not think it will happen. Mike is not a local - he is from Brooklyn - so I do not see him leaving a good situation for a worse one, just because he played here.

He is going to lose some guys at OSU - Cunningham might he the #1 draft pick, and Likekile could be gone as well. But after their unexpected success this year, he should be able to attract more prospects and his job security is through the roof.

But I am fine with hiring BJ and bringing in Alex English as a Special Assistant for a couple of years. Do you think that we would have missed on Devontae Shuler (Irmo, BJ's HS) or Tevin Mack (Dreher, Alex's HS) with those guys coaching?
From an article on Mike Boynton's time at USC and living in SC published last May:

“My wife absolutely loves the state of South Carolina,” Boynton said in a recent session of Scotty’s Corner with WCIV reporter Scott Eisberg.

“She didn’t want to leave when we left to go to Texas. We just had our first kid, a son, and our favorite place probably in the country is Charleston.”

"Charleston isn’t the only place that Boynton has fond memories of in the Palmetto State. He cherishes the time he spent in Columbia for four years playing at South Carolina and then five more years as a part of the basketball staff."

"After graduating, Boynton started on his trip of in-state assistant coaching jobs. He spent time at Furman, then Coastal Carolina, then Wofford before coming to Columbia. One place he never spent any time, though, was in the northwest corner of the state."

“I still have great disdain for Clemson University,” Boynton said, when a comment was made in the video interview about the orange shirt Oklahoma State polo he was wearing."

IDK...sounds like his wife would move tomorrow and that they would fit right in!

As I said earlier...Boynton has been doing a better than great job of recruiting at OSU...they just signed a top 5 class...this year...with the #1 player in the country in Cunningham and the #1 player out of Canada...that's pretty freaking solid...especially at OSU. I'm pretty sure he could at least get the in-state kids to take a look at USC...these in-state kids have already scratched Martin off their lists by the time they even get to HS now...who wants to play for all that screaming and stink eye giving negativity and then be publicly blamed for not buying in enough when things get tough and we miss...yet another...post season tournament?

I think that there is no future for us together as much other than friends. Frank is great and will be perfect for another program. There are irreconcilable differences here
