Muschamp has to go

So we must recruit a coach by saying "come here and beat SOS record, you are better than him........right"?

The only one I can think of with an ego that big would be Kiffen, but I doubt the pearl clutchers would want him. And I'm not certain he would even be interested.

I don't think Kiffen would come here. What could we offer that he doesn't already have?  The only thing that would turn his head is a huge amount of cash.  However, I don't see much of a benefit in him, anyway.  I would rather have Freeze, Napier, or Jamey Chadwell, but I doubt we will get any one of those three.

I'm usually all for waiting til the end of the season to make a change, but at this point I really think the fanbase and team would be rejuvenated with a change in the next week or two.  It literally can't get any worse.

One thing i had not considered until this morning is that we do not have the money (until we get out of the large CWM buyout) or the cache to go out and hire a big name, young coach with head coaching experience at the college level - at least not one without issues that would make the fans or BoT turn the hire down.

There are quite a few unproven coordinators and assistant coaches at the college levels and nfl level who we may be able to bring in at a lower cost (this being their first HC job).

This would not be perceived as a homer in hire by many and is fraught with chance of failure but it may be our best course of action if we decide to make a coaching change within the next year or so.

That was Brad Scott and early Holtz years level play, which looks like we don't even belong in the SEC.  Not sure where to even start now because we are so far off.  Firing Champ and Tanner would be a start but you also have to add hiring another coach (who would even consider coming here) also having a buyout and having to pay part of that.  We're in a financial mess unless we scratch everything and start with an unproven coordinator from a lower level.  Back to this game, it looked like we got worse with the week off and didn't practice anything but some issues aren't the kind you can practice out of at this point.  Speed and size and we have little of either.  Bad looking team really.

It can get worse. Kiffen might hang 60 on us.   Missouri's head coach is the same guy that brought his App State team to Columbia last year and whipped our asses.  UGA isn't going to gift us 4 turnovers this year and UK has a very stout defense which means they'll likely beat us 13-6 or 17-10 type of score.   Final record, 2 - 8.

Yeah, but that's expected now.  I expect us to get curbstomped by most everybody, here on out, just like last night.  Spurrier leaving mid season was a shock but there was some renewed excitement with the team the rest of the year with Elliot.  Maybe that could happen by making one of our assistants the interim HC the rest of the season.

Oh, and btw, Kentucky is going to curbstomp us too while Muschamp is in charge.

Realistically, the significant drop-off in enrollment revenue is going to create pay issues with athletic coaches on its own for most schools.

I think any new contracts will be more along the base + performance-based incentives model now more than ever because of that reason alone.

And it will only get worse if the team and coaches continue to perform as they have the last two weeks. There is no improvement and hasn't been over the last two years. The same issues exist and the same cliches used to explain them away .  "We have to look at the film" well you've been looking at the film for years now and the same issues occur in every game. The fans dont believe in this staff and have lost hope. I had hoped muschamp had learned from his mistakes but it is groundhog  day every game. This  has proved to be just as bad a hire as the sports pundits said it was 5 years ago.

A new unknown, unproven coach likely could not do any worse than Champ is now doing. We should roll the dice even mid-season.

Saying “I have to go back and look at the film.” Is either a cop out to avoid the question OR damning that CWM cannot begin to give his impression of what happened in the game. That would be a serious lack of situational awareness and a coach’s fatal flaw.

I wish reporters would press him a bit or rephrase the question to something like, “We know you will have to review the tape to examine the fine details of what happened tonight but give us your immediate impression and/or what you saw performance wise as the game went on?”

I don’t believe for a second CWM is dumb. He is one of the most organized coaches at the college level. He is afraid to say this is what happened and this is where we failed.

I posted this on a blog I follow under the "What makes you mad" thread.

I watched my South Carolina Gamecocks take a beating last night. Texas A&M took my team, the coaches, the band, the cheerleaders, the spirit squad, the water boy oh person, the fans in the stadium and the fans watching at home to the woodshed and just BEAT the &(*&^&* out of us in the first half and then did it again in the second half. Our stellar coaching staff late in the 4th decides to go for a field goal! Down at that point 40 he wants 3 ???????. Final score 48-3! Yes we used 3 QB's but mostly the one that had the best chance for us to win. The student section started yelling FIRE MUSCHAMP, they were told to stop so they did by leaving in mass. I stop watching after the 3, so hard for loyal fans.

We will have to go after a coordinator or mid to low level HC.

But we need a new AD first. No coach will come here with their bosses job in jeopardy.

If SC wants to can Muschamp and name someone an Interim fine, but they should be looking for an AD

There's a lot of grumblings and mixed messages going around today.

I kinda like this.

For one, we've gotten severely burned on the huge buyout. That needs to never happen again.

Secondly, it may steer us away from the unrealistic "home run hire" that is likely unaffordable right now.

This is a great time for USC to get creative and go in some new directions.....kinda like what the taters did.

The coach at CCU (in our own backyard), might be a great hire than we can afford.
