Twitter: Beamer staying at Oky through championship game?

How can he lecture on commitment and then leave a school he is still under contract with?

The board has not finalized his contact yet, should he work on good faith while backing out of an existing contract?

FYI kirby stayed at Bama and Kiffen stayed for the quart final and was let go by Saban before the NC. Infact Kirby said essentially the same thing:

"It's very important to me that I finish the right way over there," Smart said. "A lot of the young men playing for the University of Alabama I sat in their homes three, four, five years ago and convinced them to come to the University of Alabama. I don't think it'd be doing justice to turn and walk away from those kids."

You don't get why USC fans want their head coach fulfilling the duties of their head coach?

When has a person been hired as a head coach and continued working their duties at their old job?  I'm seriously looking for examples.  I know at Bama that's why they plugged in Kiffin.  I don't think Kirby Smart stuck around either after being hired at Georgia. It seems like it's unusual NOT to start a new gig right away from what I can find, but I'm open to someone giving examples.  It also seems to me that with the advent of the early signing period that only makes it more imperative that he be focused on the task at hand.

And spare me with the "he's honoring his commitment" spin.  That's positively eyerolling.
the irony of replying to a "spare me the 'he's honoring his commitment' spin" post by saying but he's honoring his commitment. This is just funny.

Really Man,  I don't think it going to going to matter that much it's just 2 weeks he's got to get his family here as well . South Carolina did this for themselves this leaked out somehow he was coming here he does not have an agent and he said he is talking to coaches now and players on behalf of South Carolina, think about it if an Oklahoma kid wants out where does he go maybe ?  I have no issues with it and if you had played college ball would understand more too, I know I do.

You mean how can he do the same thing a lot of other coaches do every year, especially when promoted to head coach?

Kiffen was brought in to replace a coach who left for another position, that's what I was getting at.  Thanks for clarifying re: Kirby....I couldn't find anything on whether he stayed or not.

I don't need to have played college football, or even have gone to college, to realize that there's an early signing period, there's new coaches he needs to hire, current coaches he needs evaluate and/or fire, and current members of the team that whether or not they stick around may be determined by whether or not they can talk to their new coach face to face.

Seems like that's a lot.  I dunno.  Last I checked there were 24 hours a day, and 7 days in a week.  If time moves differently for you, that's not because you played football in college, that's because you got concussed bud.

So far he only has one legal commitment, why is this difficult?
The "honoring his commitment" just seems to be trotted out to put a positive sunshiny spin on it.  Absolutely no one would fault him for leaving and getting started at USC now. I'm simply saying there's a lot that needs his attention, and it's a weird thing to put that off rather than devoting 100% of his time.  I thought similarly about the guys saying "no worries, the season's over" like SEC football coaches just take a month off*.

*excluding Spurrier.  lol.

maybe so, but that is why the famous JOE always said around his friends they don' know how to win at South Carolina, and that is why Steve left.

There is an thing called trust, and integrity Beamer come from that cloth, better get use to it.

C'mon man.  His contract was extended over the summer.  He's breaking his contract regardless.  The only difference is if he does it before or after their bowl game.  Plenty of coaches leave before their bowl game for their new jobs.  Are they all untrustworthy and lack integrity?  lol.

Dude we've each said our peace on this. Your point is that you believe him working on both jobs won't hurt him.  I think you can't serve two masters, but can't blame him for prioritizing the paying job. I think we agree on the last point

None of this has anything to do with kob saying don't give me the honor commitment line and you replying with exactly that.

Its funny that's all.

From the replies to your query, it seems like there isn't really a justification as much as a repeated belief that it's ok or at least acceptance that it's not going to be better.

I'm in the latter category. We accepted his condition that he not start right away. Now we have to deal with that. In the long run, it will either be a bad omen that we should have seen or a nothing burger. Only time will tell and it's out of our control, so best to enjoy the ride, imo

So I talked with an old high school football teammate yesterday, who is now a coach at a very successful SC high school program.  I asked him what his take on Beamer was and about the vibe with HSFB coaches in general.  He said they laugh about how over the top fans can be especially when it comes to Beamer staying with Oklahoma.  He said that Beamer has already been in contact with them on more than one occasion and that other coaches in the state he has spoken with are saying the same thing.  He is working all of the connections he has built in the past and is working the phones hard.  He also mentioned that coaches have a very favorable view of Beamer as a coach and a person.  I do hope this will translate into success.

Has Beamer's contract been approved but the BOT? Seems like I remember them meeting either today or yesterday.

Thanks - Hadn't seen that posted. Hopefully Beamer deal officially inked, we will hear more on assistants coaches real soon.

Good to hear!

Imagine how much more he could be doing if he was 100% working on USC's future! lol

Seriously though, the main thing I'm worried about is as follows in order:

1) keeping solid players on our current team committed to our current team.  This imo is the most important thing when it comes to actually being on campus and able to meet with current players face to face.

2) Recruiting...both coaches and players.  However well it's going, he's still splitting time...that means he could be doing more for USC.

3) Coaching the bowl game.  We're going to like 5 coaches on the sidelines ffs....maybe even some that still don't know if they're being retained!  That's crazy imo.  Reason it's ranked last though is because I can't see this bowl game going well, so I can't blame Beamer for not wanting to start his tenure here with what seems likely to be an ugly loss.
