Corona virus, the non-asshole thread

We are back at level of cases we had in late October at the start of the winter surge. And it looks to be a steeper curve. This is not looking good.

look at the curve for India to see what is to come...it will go high and peter out like every other virus and the sad thing is that people over the age of 12 are choosing to take the risks

your view is national as opposed to worldly...it was not preventable by any stretch of the imagination when you look at the number of people in the world who are unvaccinated and continue to have little to no access...as soon as international travel (by plane, car, foot) resumed it was bound to appear in the US....at this point if you are unvaccinated you should be limited to available beds at hospitals as opposed to taking away beds from other services for COVID patients...the fact that we had a vaccine in less than 12 months gave us a fighting chance and luckily you and your family have done the responsible thing and from what I have been told pfizer is in late stages of clinical trials for those under 12
Agree about the rest of the world. But here in the US, this surge was preventable. If we had 80-90 %vax rate, instead of 55% or whatever we are now.

the chances of 80-90 is a pipe dream (Unfortunately)...people will learn that herd immunity will occur through infection, death, or vaccination

Over 1,400 doses set to expire tomorrow in South Carolina.  17,000+ possible by the end of August.

Lots of hospitals requiring staff to be vaccinated or they will be terminated, short staffed or not.

That's all fine and dandy, except they expected us to work in constant exposure without proper PPE or a vaccine and we got a sign, some pizza, and a card.  The hospital I work for ran out of vaccines before most of the actual staff could receive them.. Now they want to mandate it?

Probably shouldn't have made us wear the same single use N95 for a week straight and then come and demand we get vaccinated. And they wonder why they are having to offer $20-$30k bonuses to attract people...

Rant over.

( Full disclosure I am and have been fully vaccinated).

Our hospital has different badge colors now for vaccinated vs unvaccinated...I thought it was interesting

dropped my son off this morning for him to start 7th grade...he was mad but I made him wear a mask even though he was vaccinated...I saw exactly one mask (his)...I have already sent an email to the principal that I found it appalling that the teachers were not even wearing masks

If you want to see what the wild west of COVID looks like as schools start back, just follow our school district...we have a child still too young to be vaccinated so we are masking again in public to in part protect him but also make him feel normal...Our hospital system has one of the higher number of vents in action since last fall but the ages of those on vents is much much lower

You healthcare folks are fawking heroes in my book (excuse my French, but damn).
it is only going to get worse...I know this is an unpopular decision but if people are unvaccinated I feel that hospitals should be able to limit their access to their care...our system is about to shut down elective surgery again and that is bullshit in that it is being done to protect those who refust to protect themselves

K-12 here in WA has a mask mandate for the school year. I am baffled that anyone could think that public health is better served by not having one, especially given that all kids under 12 can't even BE vaccinated yet? smdh
