Corona virus, the non-asshole thread

amazing!  IMO this will be the "end" of the pandemic for those who refuse vaccination...sure it will continue to circulate and become endemic but a pill is a big game changer IMO
As long as people actually take them. And don't think it's part of some conspiracy because they don't know what's in it.

But I agree - this is a huge development in the fight against Covid.

I just want people to stay out of the hopsitals...as long as it is readily available then hopefully it will be used

I was reading something the other day that some insurance companies are testing the legal waters if they can refuse to provide treatment benefits for COVID if someone elects not to be vaccinated

Hmmm... i think that would be a terrible decision.

Any H/C is expensive.  I believe the precedent to set is terrible.  Are we not going to treat alcoholics for liver disease next?  Smokers?  Those with diabetes that are obese?  Where does it end?
Well smokers already have higher insurance premiums....

I still don't like it because it will expand to other things.
I can see it both ways....while I LOATHE insurance companies I can see where they would have a problem with people who choose to not be vaccinated and run up huge bills should they require hospitilization...I don't think we should ever pretend that insurance compaines operate within the confines of ethics

People should be forced to pay for their bad decisions or is this only in regards to healthcare?  I don't know how the contracts are written now but I would bet that the language in the contracts has been re-written

Speaking of huge hospital bills...when does the transparency in costs legislation go into effect for hospitals?  Is that the first of the year?  I'm really hoping this has an impact on healthcare costs -- or at least is a first step, in that pricing awareness is needed.

I believe that is correct!  It will be nice!  We took our son to a pediatric cardiologist this morning and they were very upfront on costs before we even arrived which was a breath of fresh air!

Insurance companies do deny treatment though.  Plenty of treatments are not covered, thus denying the treatment.  My friend's dad had cancer 25 years ago and the insurance company denied the surgery.  They called him 2 days before saying it would not be covered.  He still had it, but had to pay out of pocket.  There are plenty of services / treatments that insurance companies deny payment for - prior to the service.

I am not in agreement with them broad brushing denying the non-vaxed health services as I agree that is a very dangerous precedent.

....people who choose to not be vaccinated and run up huge bills should they require hospitilization...
A friend's SIL has been in and out of ICU for months (maybe up to 6 months). Several near death episodes....and almost certainly he was not vaxxed. I would imagine the bills are close to $1 mil at this point.

The guy likely will never be the same if he recovers and still can't eat food.

Much of this is the cost of misinformation....including many we've already lost.  :(

I could not agree more...it is a damn shame
