Evaluating Muschamp tenure at the helm so far

I think one thing we need to consider before we dismiss Muschamp is who's going to replace him. There have been some good suggestions on this forum, but I haven't heard one that is a "sure thing". I tend to agree that since it's clear Muschamp is getting at least one more year, we look at replacing our coordinators. That is probably the best scenario going forward.

There are several reasons CWM will not be fired. His recruiting efforts have been pretty good considering what we have has to sell lately as far as wins and losses. Our program has really had NO off the field issues and our players are going to class and making good grades. Don't be surprised if our ADs office makes it clear with another extention of contract (with no pay raise) after the year is over. That move would calm down, for a while, all the negative recruiting towards us.

I know some say its an excuse but the injuries on the offensive side of the ball has been devistating, so dont be surprised to see BMac back next year. He recruits well and has had some games, notibly last year, where he lit people up. The main things in all of this is recruiting and being able to maintain some kind of stability in the coaching staff. Recruting is key and is the end all in college football, (see klempzun). If datzbow wasnt able to point at his recruiting successes when we were beating his ass for 5 years he was a out of there.

We all are tired of bad seasons in football and we all want to win but given the fact the mess CWM took over when he got here and the solid recruiting classes he has brought in, it would be foolish to make wholesale changes in the coaching staff.

On No 6 if you have your AD lined up hit the ground running. It could play out better then how the State tells it, especially if they are a step ahead with HC candidate's.
Because this university has a history of being a step ahead of anything?  Both the AD and HC being fired in the same season would set us back big time.  Folks tend to think there's a list of possible candidates willing to come to UofSC.  Not so, especially the types mentioned in these threads who are proven winners elsewhere.  We need a gimmick to be successful, like Spurrier.  Twilight years of coaching and wanted to get back into college coaching.

Personally, I think if CWM finishes the season and announces no staffing changes, the fan base will react and force someones hand. Some changes have to be made, even if BMac ends up being a sacrificial lamb, they need to do something to show they are trying to correct the problem.

Maybe Spurrier wants to dip his toe back in CF as an OC.  Does not have to do all the heavy lifting of recruiting.  He can just show up call the game and go back home lol.

Yup, its going to be big time hell raising for those who like to spend their life on the world wide web. But, I believe our AD and Head Football Coach have think enough skins and enough backbones to weather that storm. I also believe they can stand up to the BOTs. My one big worry in all of this is the new Prez. He seems to be a loose cannon and didnt realize how big southern college tackle football is. Lets hope he has learned to keep his trap shut and handle all of this in the correct manner.

If no changes are made, this will be our fanbase:

If WM fires any coaches, I'd tell him the expense comes out of his own $4.5 mil salary. He's the one who hired these guys....he needs to man up and win with them, or quit.

The only reason he's not already fired is because of the buyout debacle.

At this time I have 0 confidence in this coach and staff and will take it one step further about the same confidence in our leadership top to bottom. Worst in my 67 years.

Oh c’mon it’s not THAT bad.  Tough schedule, lots of injuries.   Spurrier left us with a really bad roster.  We were starting a walk-on Quarterback for goodness sakes.  You don’t do that in the SEC but that’s how he left it and it was so bad he walked away.  We lost to the Citadel guys.  THAT was bad.  Be mad at Muschamp but he’s done more with a lot less and he’s slowly building it back.  Recruiting is good, we’re getting back to the talent levels we once had.  Lots of young guys playing and making an impact and more help on the way.  It’s a bad year, yes, but if you thought it was going to be up up up you don’t watch college football.  It takes time.  Let the man coach and cut him a little slack.  We aren’t where we want to be (yet) but thank goodness we aren’t where we were.

Like to hear both sides cons and pros. You have stuck to your guns. :animated-smileys-icons-007: In time one way or another, simple way to put it time tells all.

I hope this is only fan reasoning. If Muschamp uses he should be fired on the spot!

Yep, time will tell all.  As long as there is enough time.

Contrary to what some may think I’m not necessarily a Muschamp supporter.   I simply hold a strong opinion that 4 years isn’t enough time and I believe there are very good statistical and common sense reasons that this is true.

I don’t know if Champ can ultimately win here.  The jury is still out.  But I think there are some very strong indicators that warrant a little more time for the guy.  Ideally I’d like to see him kept into the 2021 season (his 6th) because this seems to be where the culmination of his efforts is pointing.  I think the sixth year for most coaches is the put up or shut up year and rightly so.  Anything before that is premature to me (as long as certain criteria are being met).

I’m willing to wait because the talent level appears to be improving with good quality kids and so it’s not like he’s running the program into the ground.  Worst case, he gets fired after 2021(assuming he gets 6 years) and we’ve got a very good roster for the next staff to work with.  I can live with that as it seems more pragmatic than simply scrapping it all now right in the middle of it and starting all over.  To me, that would be a disaster.

Two things he needs to do. Somehow change his history with eye popping laundry injury lists. Put a offense on the field. Defense  no problems. But he has to put together a competitive offense. Other words he will have to change up his coaching style something like what big O at LSU has done. If he is still here.

100% agree.

Damn Sk8, after the season get on the phone to Liberty and buy Hugh Freeze a lake lot. He is a damn good recruiter and a damn good offensive coach that can be gotten cheap.

Agree Freeze might be a guy that is willing to jump into this situation to get him more exposure to get back in a power 5 school.

Freeze would fill the void two fold. His offense and recruiting would get the show on the road.

That is if we cut BMac loose. I'm still not sure that CWM will do that. Listening to him he has been dishing out a lot of favorable numbers for the offense from last year and making sure not to make light of all the injuries we have had on that side of the ball.
