Napier played QB at Furman...and then coached at both Clemson and South Carolina State...as well as...Alabama, Colorado State and Arizona State...ACC/SEC/Pac-12 and now Sunbelt...has multiple conference and national championship rings...OC/QB/WR coach...41 years old...universally considered a top recruiter...Chadwell is 15-16 at CCU...Napier is 24-11 at Louisiana...not sure what I'm missing...and I like Chadwell
You think we can get Napier? It looks good.

money, cheating and prostitutes still don't rise to the level of he's a bad person, IMO. The kids should be paid. Prostitution without trafficking and of free will is shrug to me. Cheating is not great, but again CFB players really should be considered employees, so also not a big deal to me.

I could see if other's disagreed.

Are you being serious?

If so...the answer is YES!

Do you want me to list them all?
yes it was a serious question and the answer seems to be $, prostitutes and maybe cheating on an entrance exam. scandalous, yes. Bad person, no.

This is weird timing.  If memory serves we could've saved a few million by waiting another month or two.  The AD is trying to close a $44 million hole this year as well.  I hope they got donors to pony up a bunch of $$$, not sure this year of all years is the time to have to pay buyouts for a whole coaching staff that's leaving as well as paying buyouts to hire a new coaching staff.  I get that it allows us to start our search early, but last time that search lead to our top prospects going to UGA (Smart) and turning us down (Herman) I believe.

Here's hoping this doesn't come around to bite us in the ass.
The timing is one of few things that does make sense.  Waiting would also cost $.  There's the early signing period a month away.  Get ahead of everyone else looking.  A good hire will add a ton of enthusiasm and bring $ back.

I've heard several interviews with Freeze over time and he sounds like (emphasis on sounds) he has recognized his mistakes and thinks about things much differently now.  I am not saying I fully trust, but do believe in second chances, but if there is an option that does not require you to take that risk that is a good fit, I say go for it.  The more I read about Napier the more I like.  On a side note, I see Conner Shaw is going to be moved to an on field spot for the rest of the season and I hope whoever we bring in will keep Shaw on staff.  He is a big part of the most success this program has ever known and he is also a link to keep Stockton in the mix moving forward.

We gave Muschamp a second chance, look how that turned out.

If we go after and land Freeze, we had better be prepared to take everything that may come with it. When you commit to someone with a sordid past, you have to be prepared that it will happen again, so better put the compliance in place now so it doesn't happen. I'm not saying we shouldn't. But the school needs to be prepared if he lands here. Can't say "oh we didnt know."

Agree. It's almost perfect. We get a leg up on any teams looking for a HC.

Not sure that is really a good comparison as one we are talking about a 2nd chance on actual coaching ability.  I am not saying Freeze is the guy, but if we vet him out and he is, I am fine with it.

It was more of a snarky comment about our hiring of Muschamp than anything else.

I am hoping this thread becomes HoF worthy. Because I think its going to take a while. Would a coach currently coaching leave to take our job immediately?

Yeah, but we may be competing against Texas again.

Napier has been out of the state since his time at Clemson - so he does not know a lot of the current HS coaches, or many of the current prospects. Big advantage for Chadwell, who has been in the state continuously except for one year at Delta State.

Plus you have the stigma of hiring a coach that was fired at Clemson with Napier. That might be a motivator for him, but maybe not. But Dabo got where he is with shrewd HIRES - and Napier was a FIRE.

Chadwell has shown steady improvement in his three years at Coastal - and remember that they made the jump from FCS to FBS in 2017. To go from FCS to 7-0 as an FBS program in four years is pretty damn amazing. And Chadwell was there for all of it.
Honestly both of them are a toss up.  Nothing really separates one from the other for me and would be considered a long term solution at best.  Meaning we wait a while.  Napier does have experience in recruiting at the level we need where Chadwell is recruiting a different type of player at a lower level.  He's not used to competing vs UGA, UF, UT, Clemson, UNC, and others.    In his defense, Coastal probably beats us this year regardless.

Assuming you mean talent gap. talent/recruiting was not Boom's problem Coaching was.

UF won two SEC East titles with Boom's recruits - as soon as he left. All that is needed is someone whose coaching schemes are based in the 21st Century and understands clock management.
The best Muschamp ever did in 247 composite was 7th in SEC and 18th overall in 2018.  That's not closing the gap with teams that are in the top 5-8 every single year.

And sometimes losing to teams with lesser talent based upon those ratings.

....sometimes out recruited, some times outcoached, sometimes both.

There are plenty of ways to complain about champ. I've only heard ambiguous, he's nice in his defense. We'll do better than that with whoever we hire.

IDK...Napier supposedly turned down the Miss State job before Mike Leach was hired...word is he also showed little interest in the Missouri and Ole Miss jobs before they moved on with hew hires last year...has done a good job of showwing loyalty to his current team and seemingly happy coaching ULa-La...having them ranked higher than all three...four including us...as I type this...again...Missouri got a good one in Coach Drink!!

Here is an article out of Lafayette that touches on the South Carolina job, etc.
