Putin/Russia calls up 160,000 conscripts

Redeploying our nuke subs closer to Russia is just another Cold War strategy; George W. Bush had do to something like that, too, with Putin if memory serves.

Just another quagmire. Giggity.

It will be interesting to see how the meeting tomorrow turns out.
Will Putin be willing to stop his war? How much more pressure can the US put on him?
Trump has shown he does not like to be played with. I think he will threaten Putin to stop.
Look at the way he increased tariffs on India because they were buying fuel from Russia. He can do the same thing to any country that is helping Russia financially.
I think the biggest issue is will Putin give up any of the land he currently controls and will he release the thousands of children they took to Russia?
Either one of those would make him look bad for costing his country a million troops for nothing.

I think if Putin is given land in Ukraine, he might be bold enough to get some in Alaska.

Trump is used to working both sides of the table in business, but I don't think it's going to work with the Ukraine war because Putin is all in.

He's trying to smooth things over with Russia just like he did with North Korea during his first term. It won't work now just like it didn't back then with NK.

What's also different about this one is Trump is trying to avoid any serious aid to Ukraine. He's already called Putin a dumbass in public, too. Nothing will come out of the meeting, but I believe we have secured the release of two political prisoners recently. That will be the only win, but a decent one.

You may be correct but I like the fact that he's trying to stop it.

Dictators don't like being dictated to.
Putin still has to save face. I don't see an off ramp for him. I would not be surprised if Putin drags this on hoping for some kind of "win".
Any concession makes him look weak and tarinishes any legacy he may have had.

It wouldn't surprise me to see us going to war before this is all over. Russia is just that stupid.

Putin has framed the Ukraine war as The West vs. Russia to the point that he would be overthrown if he pulls out of Ukraine.

The next step maybe would be allowing Ukraine into NATO, but if that was done Ukraine might see that as a license to fully invade western Russia. However, if Putin doesn't withdraw his forces, invading Russia to force a pullback would be the only way of getting the Russian forces out of Ukraine.

Neither side can win the war on their own at this point and it's gonna be a bloody stalemate in the near future.

I often wonder how much better a country Russia would be if it used it resources for the betterment of its citizens than being in a near constant state of war and conquest?

The B-2 flyover was cool, but Putin essentially told Trump to go pound sand as many expected to happen.

Trump needs to move on from that "This war would have never happened if I were President" BS because it's not true. If it was true, there would have been a ceasefire yesterday. Putin was going to war no matter who the POTUS was.

Putin looked like he had been working out and leisurely hopped down the steps from his plane. Some would say the best way to have ended the Ukraine war yesterday was to just have shot down Putin's plane or arrested him on the tarmac because that's the way Putin would have done it.

Impressive flyover for sure, but Putin has been in power for 25 years and made Trump look like an ass-kissing patsy yesterday.

Russia could be an economic powerhouse. Huge land mass. Tons of natural resources. One foot in Europe, the other in Asia. Technologically advanced (at least was during the Cold War). So much squandered potential.

So why would Putin go through this charade just to tell Trump to go pound sand? He could have done that without leaving Moscow.
