The Trivia Thread

Syd Barrett.  Founding member that left after 1 LP.  He was on 1 song on their 2nd album.  Syd actually showed up in the recording studio when they were making the WYWH album.  Overweight and bald.  The band did not recognize him at first.
Nice - I figured there must be some Pink Floyd fans that would know this. Yeah he was schizophrenic and / or because of a lot of LSD and other drugs, left the band and became estranged from PF and society as a whole. After years of no contact with the members of PF, he showed up unannounced at Abbey Road Studios and sat there silently while they were recording the final take of 'Shine on you Crazy Diamond". The band didn't even recognize it was him until later.

I'm the former front man for the country rock band Pure Prairie League, and over the course of my career have earned 22 Grammy awards, the most by any country musician ever, and also hold the record for most CMA awards.  I was once asked by Mark Knopfler to join Dire Straits, and while I declined, I have toured with them. I also toured with the Eagles in 2017 to fill the "guest slot" left open by the death of Glen Frey. I have sold more than 26 million albums and accumulated more than 50 Top 40 hits.

Who am I?

He did have some mental illness issues for sure.  LSD did not help, but I think he would have experienced mental illness with or without LSD.  He also hated being in a rock band, so I am sure that did not help his mental state.

I'm assuming there needs to be a connotation between the testing/creation and the song title ... how about "Let It Be"?
Incorrect. Title of the song has no connotation to testing / creating.

Nevermind, I'm a bit behind and got confused with the ad placements.

Which song was used by the creator of the .mp3 use to test and refine the compression algorithm?
I actually know this(I think it was a question on Jeopardy once)...funny b/c I had a tape (yes a tape lol) with ton's of different versions (languages) of Tom's Diner

what is the ONLY sports facility to host a Super Bowl, A world Series and a Final Four?

from Wikipedia:

Karlheinz Brandenburg used a CD recording of Suzanne Vega's song "Tom's Diner" to assess and refine the MP3 compression algorithm. This song was chosen because of its nearly monophonic nature and wide spectral content, making it easier to hear imperfections in the compression format during playbacks. Some refer to Suzanne Vega as "The mother of MP3".[51] This particular track has an interesting property in that the two channels are almost, but not completely, the same, leading to a case where Binaural Masking Level Depression causes spatial unmasking of noise artifacts unless the encoder properly recognizes the situation and applies corrections similar to those detailed in the MPEG-2 AAC psychoacoustic model.

With the Final Four, It has to be a domed stadium. The Metordome?
exactly!  Good call since it has been imploded!  Well Done Sir!  I was able to attend the final four there when Duke beat the Fab 5 of Michigan when they were freshmen...while we were in the dome our seats were so dang far from the court it was horrible lol

I believe you are correct. That's the first one I thought of as well
That was the first domed stadium I could think of that had both baseball and football. I don't think many new stadiums are built for both sports anymore. So that really narrowed it down.

Yeah, that was my thought as well.

The only other stadium I thought about was Tropicana Field in St Petersburg. I know it hosted a World Series and Final Four, but figured that if the Bay area hosted a Super Bowl it would be at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

Those big domes are terrible for basketball. I went to the 2000 Final Four in Indianapolis at the RCA Dome and all the seats were terrible. I pretty much just watched the jumbotron the whole time.

Who is the only person in NBA history to be named league MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year?

at least they had the jumbotron...I think I was there in 1991 and nothing to watch on lol!  I agree 100%
