Corona virus, the non-asshole thread

Swayin - I don't think this line of conversation is political, but if others disagree, I have no issue with you deleting.  I struggle with the conflicting thoughts of should I reply or not -- knowing that in continuing this conversation that someone will inevitably cross the line of simple discourse.  So I took the easy way out, and will let the mods determine.
I hear you. As long as we can avoid "Conservatives are stupid because they believe in horse paste," or "liberals are idiots because they don't see how this works" types of things, I don't think it's political, I just think it's a sensitive topic. The sign of a strong community isn't that you always agree, it's that you can figure out how to disagree and still move the conversation forward. I'm hopeful we can continue to do so. Eventually many of us will just have to agree to disagree on a given topic, and move on to the next one - another sign of a strong community IMO.

And FWIW, the FDA is doing a study on the prescription tablet form of ivermectin vs covid as we speak, so maybe we will get some of that hard data before too long.

there are zero actual studies...anecdotal evidence is fine if that is what you wish to base therapy upon....your example ignores all the factors that contribute to someone getting covid and is nothing short of confirmation bias.  I hope that ivermectin works but to tout it as anything other than anecdotal b/c of the paucity of controlled study is dangerous...have you seen the studies out of Argentina or are those incorrect due to their outcome?

As for the vaccines...you very well could be correct about side effects and people may die waiting for them to manifest themselves...but then again you could be wrong thereby potentially exposing others...I just hope you are masked up
I said nothing about studies I said stats.

I have no problem with people getting the vaccine. If you feel it will help you, go for it. I believe in freedom, so if you feel the need to wear a containment suit when you go out, I won’t say a word. You do what needs to be done in your mind.

My Dad died of Covid on Sunday, and my mom is currently in the hospital with it. They made their choice on what they wanted to do. I tried and tried to get them to go outside and get vitaminD, to do some sort of exercise, and to eat correctly, but they didn’t. My dad was obese, had raging diabetes, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure, and would not take his medicine or use his C-pap machine. I can only try to get him to things, but we each make our own choice.
I have been almost bathing in Covid germs for the last two weeks, as I have helped him before calling an ambulance and cleaning out their house to clean. I had Covid last year, and am comfortable that my antibodies will protect me. If I’m wrong, it is what it is.

I don't know what to say that would provide any sort of comfort - I am just so, so sorry to hear that and can only imagine at what you are going through right now between your parents and your job.  Sending you all the good vibes and thoughts I can muster, my friend.

Thanks, Swayin. I own my own business, so customers have been very nice to let me put them off for a bit, while I got all of this straight.

Wow - So sorry my friend. That is tragic to hear. Wish you strength during this time. Also hope your mom is able to make a recovery.

I will stop debating the horse cream. Take care Cockyandproud.

I had Covid last week. I am vaccinated so my case stayed mild and out of the hospital. But it still had me down and feeling like crap for a good 4-5 days. I do not wish this on anyone.

Can we talk about vaccine mandates here? or do we have to keep walking on eggshells while we go into fall with much higher infection numbers than last year at this time and everything is open unlike last year? I really don't care about hurting someone's feelings here as more people around me die.

Sorry to hear this news Cockyandproud.  Sending all the prayers and positive vibes I can.  We are always here for you in our digital little community.

Can you voice your opinions in a respectful way, and agree to disagree with others who don't share that opinion? If so, sure. If not, then Facebook or Twitter would be a more appropriate place to vent.

It's time for a national mask mandate. It's time for this country to get back to normal as soon as possible. The mandate will hold up in court. The Chief Executive is in charge of federal employees, most other workplaces fall under OSHA which is responsible for workplace safety. Students over 16 would fall under the mandate as well. Those 12-16 can do home schooling until a vaccine is fully FDA approved for them if their parents opt out of them being vaccinated ...and younger children should have a COVID vaccine as soon as possible just like they do for so many other communicle diseases.

That still isn't doing much to stop the spread of COVID, kinda like taking Theraflu if you find out your have the flu in a quick enough manner. Sadly, not everyone in this country has access to healthcare in a way as to diagnose quickly. Everyone does, however, have access to a free vaccine.

Interestingly ivermectin is now being repurposed as an anti cancer drug
About twenty years ago I ended up in the hospital with a horrid case of Scabies. Once they figured out what it was in the ER they spread Ivermectin cream over my whole body and admitted me to an isolation room. They talked about giving me the oral form of it, but either because my kidneys had already started to fail and they thought it would make them worst, or they thought they killed all the Scabies, they never did. Those Scabies were one of the worst medical experiences of my life and I've had some bad ones. They lay eggs in your skin and even though they were dead I was uncontrollably itchy for like a month after I was discharged.

absolutely...not to mention all the shitty ass food they probably eat that is pumped fulll of steroids/hormones/(fill in the blank) and not to mention smoking
...sugar, and sugar, and sugar....

I saw that approximately 200 million people in the US have been vaccinated. Why is there so much trouble?  With 2/3 of the population vaccinated, shouldn’t it be in decline by now?  Why if you get the vaccine, do you have to get boosters every few months now?   Why were masks not effective then effective, then that wasn’t enough, so it became 2 or three masks?  If it isn’t a containment suit, it is doing nothing to prevent viral infection. Why is natural immunity not mentioned as the most effective way to rid ourselves of this?  I can tell you from personal experience that it works like a charm. Why is Australia spiking when they are locking their people down like no other country, but their numbers continue to rise?
