Evaluating Muschamp tenure at the helm so far

Chad Morris's offense will not work in the SEC or nationally. When he was at klempzun, every team that had a good defense beat his schemes and play calling. He was the reason we beat them 5 in a row. With that said, I feel we have a problem not only with an offensive OC but the coaching staff as a whole. Being out coached by the likes of unc, Mizzou, UT and now Appy State just doesnt sit well with me. I fully believe you have to give a coach 6 years to get things right, especially they when you look at the mess and lack of talent that CWM inherited. But getting out coached like the staff has this year is a real big problem. I know we have had terrible luck with a lot of injuries the last 2 years but the Appy State game enlighten me on how bad we are coaching right now.

At the end of the season we will do a final grade on Boom and staff. Will keep it in this thread. Looking forward to your grades . If you see a future  with Boom that's cool or not. Both ways. We can do the Head man and each staff and that includes strength coach etc.

If, and thats a big if, we beat Clemson would all be forgiven?

Me personally, since I dont hear the Clemson chatter 365 because I do not live in SC dont put as much emphasis on the Clemson game as most. I look at that game as a slightly elevated OOC game (I know I will probably get stoned for that). In general, I'd rather go to SEC Championship, having lost to Clemson than having a crap season (like now) and beating Clemson. But if we are headed to the SEC Championship than we are a good team, and probably should beat Clemson. Though since Clemson is now ranked in the top 5 all the time, it would be nice to beat them, but our reputation is in the SEC, not the ACC.

like i said before i dont think theres an oc out there who can significantly improve this offense enough to make this a winning team and even if there is a few of them i dont have any faith in muschamp to hire one of them.   no matter who the oc is next year would muschamp be willing to make a change if the starter struggles, i doubt it.  i feel like since connor shaw we've gone from utter refusal to use the qb in the run game or barely running it to the point where a defense still doesnt have to account for the qb.  i thought when bmac took over things would change for the better in that regard but the difference has been minimal.  the defense has stepped it up this year, 15th nationally right now in defensive efficiency but its also let us down at the worst times when it could have held a team to a fg to win us the game or keep it within one score.

the other big issue along with the offense is our kickoff return and coverage units.   edwards has done a good job on punt returns, were 16th nationally in punt return average.  our kickoff return unit and both coverage units have been awful, 112th in ko coverage, 128th in punt coverage, 97th in kick returns.  before muschamp  2009  was the last year our coverage units were both bad with an average ranking of 108.5 between the two units, we're most likely to end up worse than that for the 2nd time in 4 years.

we've lost 3 games by at least 20 pts this year with only one of those being against a ranked team also giving up 21 straight points to florida to blow a lead in the 2nd half which is eerily similar to last year where the exact same thing happened except we waited til our bowl game to get blown out for the 3rd time.

its an interesting scenario provided we lose to a&m but beat clemson.  then youre stuck with the nagging question of how the hell do you go 2-1 vs uga/clemson/bama and go 3-6 vs everyone else.  if we somehow win the next two and win a bowl game then he definitely saves his job and we at least have positive momentum going into the offseason.  the only way we likely score enough pts to beat either team is if all their scholarship qb's get injured, but like you said id also treat it more like a celebration of clemson's misery rather than feeling any confidence that we're on the verge of being a top 10 team again.

Would all be forgiven?  I say definitely not but it would be awesome to knock them out of the CFP!

Smith, Kinlaw, Brunson, & Wonnum are not going to be easy to replace.
I may be overly pessimistic, but unless there are a lot of underclassmen who take a big leap in the off season, there will be some major gaps on both sides of the ball. Next years schedule is no cake walk, if Muschamp can only win 4 games with this years roster, I will really have a hard time getting excited for next season.

No not pessimistic just realistic. Right now not much to get gitty about for the future. Seems just playing out for 2021 at this point. Got to be a miracle last 2 games to change the feeling most fans have now. Most part could not replace Deebo. Now Smith, Kinlaw, Brunson, & Wonnum plus the running backs. Me personally Will have a new coach by the end of 2020.

I'm surprised by the volume of recent recruits who have left the program or haven't panned out.

WM has been built up as being this tireless recruiter and his staff known for great evaluations. I don't see it.

It seems like he hasn't had any major duds, but certainly hasn't recruited to quite the level I expected thus far. Loyd, Doty, and a few other big names, if he can hold them, but top 20 recruiting classes, while nice, will not win the state or the east.

Why is there such a long history with injuries that follow Boom. If his past 2 teams stayed healthy would we be looking at better results on the field? That does not explain the lost to the Tarheels being the first game of the season. I know our TE's were disseminated  during fall.

Interesting. It appears there were more duds than I thought at first. Now that you bring it up, there have been a number of transfers to lower level schools, I thought at first the attrition was because of increased talent, but given the record, I am not so certain.

Even with everybody healthy, the offensive game plan is run up the middle run to the short side then pass the ball short of the sticks, it's so predictable that even App St shut it down. I don't know how many more games we win if we went through the whole schedule unscathed.

It looks like mist of the “duds” were in his 1st two recruiting classes.  Which makes since given the lack of time to develop relationships and evaluate kids.  His last two classes look pretty darn good though.    How many months did he have to recruit his fist class?  Two months?   Now that class is redshirt juniors and seniors with a lot of holes in it.

This is why it takes 6 years minimum to really know what a coach can do at a program in my opinion.

His "talent" has won 4 games. The only ice he sold was to Tanner.

Next year will be rough and I don’t think he will survive barring a major turnaround.  It’s a shame too because if you take a look at the roster and the freshmen and sophomores on this team.. we look to be absolutely loaded in two years when these guys will be juniors and seniors.  Not to mention this next years class coming in.

Seriously, take a look at this current roster and the number of young kids that are going to be studs by their senior year.  It’s impressive.

After their 1st or 2nd year is when they start dropping off, hitting the portal, moving on.....

His '17 & '18 recruiting classes were Top 20. How many of them still on the team?
