Evaluating Muschamp tenure at the helm so far

With respect I don't think you can equate a #24 nc state victory to a victory over a top 15 team (Florida) and champ was given credit for Michigan as his only noteworthy win. Aka fewer reasons to be excited by him than sos had in less time. Bigger question is what has champ done on the field to hang his hat on?
Probably the biggest differences in '05-'08 v. '16-'19, is one guy had a trophy case full of trophies and the other had a pink slip. HBC gave the Gamecock nation hope and was publicly vocal about all his failings and frustrations. He did win some big games in his first few seasons and had us openly competitive.

I would also venture that the current staff of assistants is better than those that were on HBC's staffs his first few seasons. He eventually replaced them with guys like Mangus, Eric Wolford/Shawn, E.J, and a few others.

Anyone remember the days when we were calling ourselves DBU? Now it's more like missed tackle U.

Champ is safe for now, but if he does drop the next two, Mizzu and Kentucky there will be heavy clouds on the horizon. I think Tanner and Champ are on the clock. this year in a way is pivotal especially the next two games. Next year Schedule not going to be any easier. Going to Mizzu at one time a double digit dog shows the hill in front of us. Not a mountain a hill we can overcome Saturday. We need to, No more steps backwards Champ has to break that trend same one he had at Florida. It's time now.
Totally.

I hate to be that pessimistic guy, but.....if Muschamp can't beat Mizzou, he could be facing 5 straight SEC losses. Muschamp is staring down the barrel. He needs to get desperate.

He has to find some daylight in his defense and find a red zone offense. The Ryan Hilinski machine can move the ball between the 20s, but they have to score TDs.

And this could turn around....we are still early in the season. No one knows what's going to happen. This team has to find a win to believe in themselves.

Four years in it stops being reasonable to blame the last coach. That is really the bottom line. No one is going to hold losing to bama against him. Losing to UNC, Missouri and Kentucky on the other hand...

Yep....this is Muschamp's team and era.

If he doesn't beat Mizzou....no way he beats UK, UGA, or UF. He needs some quick fixes. We could be headed for a 4-8 season.

Until he beats teams of equal talent and stops losing to teams like UNC and UVA, he's headed for removal. He could have Bama's players and still find a way to lose.

If anything saves him, it's Ryan Hilinski not some magical recruiting. His defenses are not doing him any favors.
This is very accurate.  What has he done to deserve a pay raise?  He's done alright with recruiting, but has yet to beat a top 25 team.  His defense continues to look average at best, and he has been embarrassed with UNC and UVA.

I'd say he's an above average recruiter and above average coach, but below average as a game manager.  I see Dabo as a great recruiter and great manager, but below average coach.  But he knows that and found some stellar coordinators.  For how much CWM is making, he's under-performing overall.  We may as well get a young coach for half the cost that can lose the games we're supposed to and hope to win the others...which is pretty much where we are now.

If we don't beat MO, KY, and TN....he's going to be on a red hot seat next year.  No one expects us to beat UGA or FL (although FL I think we can).

Honestly if he loses to the Tennessee dumpster fires, he should can himself or we should do it if he won't. Either way it should be immediate. Otherwise I agree with you

Don't know how Taggart is not #1 on that list.  Also remember when many were upset that we did not get Fuente.

Coach Muschamp and staff got here late his first year and put together a good recruiting year - and he pretty much had a empty pantry to look at with the returning players (Not Enough Quality SEC Players On Roster". Yes, we can all still blame SOS & Junior for the mess that they left, but only for one more year as a coach really needs four to five full years to get his players on his team.  USC also cannot afford to buy out Coach Muschamp right now - nor at the end of the season, as we are not Texas A&M or Texas where they have enough billionaires to "flow the note".  Our first game loss is all on the coaches for not preparing the players better.  2nd Game was against a "cupcake" and it gave our team and QB a lot of experience and hopefully built up their confidence after the disaster at NC.  Playing and losing to Alabama "puts no shame in your game" as there are only two or three teams that could have played better against them than what USC did last Saturday.  All of that being said, I do wish our record was better, but we are still a young team that is looking for it's identity and we need a few players to step up their games and show better leadership on the field and lockeroom.  Our coaches also need to do their very best each and every practice and game.

For those of you that want to fire Coach Muschamp at the end of the season or right now, I would only ask one question;  "Who would you bring in here and how much time would you give him before you fired him"???  The SEC overall is a lot better league than it was when SOS first got here and it took him about 5 years to start putting a quality product on the field.  I hate losing as bad as anyone on this board, but I also see that Coach Muschamp and staff are doing the best that they can with the talent we have now.  This staff has made "great in-roads with high school coaches in SC, NC, GA, FL, and a few other states that they think are worth recruiting.  We now have an excellent young QB that is only going to get better and quality RB's and WR's.  Our defense and O-Line could step up and play better and maybe after facing Alabama for a whole game - they will???  I just think that we are very close this year and it may not show up in wins as much as the Gamecock Nation wants it to be.  A revolving door at a SEC School that fires coaches every four years will send a strong signal to the - hot - new - potential - Football Savior - to surely avoid wanting to come to USC to be our coach.

Chump's problem has been his usage of the talent that he recruits on the offensive side of the ball. He falls in love with stats instead of results (wins).

We recruit QBs like Joyner but fail to use their skills at that position. Trying to fit a square peg into a round hole just doesn't work. I'd rather have 300 yards and win the game than a glamorous 500+ yard loss.

Clemson pulled Bryant and inserted Lawrence, Bama pulled Hurts and inserted Tua. Both yielded results, a NC. One program went from an RPO oriented offense to a Pro Set and the other did the opposite but the end result was a success. That's what winning programs are willing to do to get the hardware, we play games and fall in love with personalities and stats. Stats are for losers.

Chump has to decided whether he wants to win or look fairly well.

I think he's safe based on probably the hardest schedule in the country and not much was expected of this year AND his massive buyout.  The time of blaming SOS is over, and this is his team now.

The only way I see him being fired this year is if we lose 3/4 of MO, KY, Vandy and TN.  We will lose to UGA and Clemson, and highly doubt we win FL and aTm.  If for some reason he is fired this year, Ray has to go too.

Agree. I think it's hanging in the balance. We don't know what kind of team we have yet.....we've had 3 different kinds of games.

But Muschamp needs to kick his DC's azz for letting Tua read our defense like the front page.

If you evaluate where we are now compared to where we were when he was hired there is definite improvement. People have the unrealistic expectation of someone being able to turn us into a national title contender overnight. I still have doubts about Muschamp, but I believe he deserves a few more years to get the program depth where it needs to be. However, we are fooling ourselves if we think we can get to the level of Clemson, UGA, and Bama without a culture change among our admin and boosters. The landscape of college football has changed and if you want to recruit at an elite level you have to be willing to pay for it.
Dont see it we were a 3 win team when boom took over and we might be that this year he doesn't seem to have the right staff around him to get it done at this point in time.

Honestly trob should be on the hot seat and bmac not too far from it.

Muschamp might buy some time by firing both of them if things continue south.
That and his 18 billion dollar buy-out. Knowing Tanner wont't happen. Leaning to a package deal myself. Get my jest.

Well they don't have to pay all those billions in one lump sum. Muschamp is set for life.

At least hopefully the bleeding will soon be over.
