The 31st of August was one of the bloodiest days of the Battle of Britain. The RAF lost 39 fighter planes, and 14 pilots had been killed or were missing in action. Luftwaffe losses were slightly higher - 41 aircraft lost, with 6 shot down by the Poles of 303 Squadron.
It's shame the worlds biggest plane was destroyed. And the Iroany is that it was a Soviet era plane that was destroyed by the Russians. I did not know it was stationed in Ukraine.Air-Crane Gypsy Lady arriving at Sydney on an An-124 in 2020. Chris Matei photo. October, 2020. (below)

Yes! Zelensky has mastered it!You have to wonder if armed drones and social media will be the two key weapons in this conflict.
Putin is still stuck in a 1980s-90s KGB world mentally.Yes! Zelensky has mastered it!
Those drones can also be used to send GPS targeting info to other assets & no one can tell for sure who is operating them.
Russia has pissed off a lot of people.
Most of the world is pulling for Ukraine.
I'm more and more convinced this is going to end badly for the Russians. Getting pulled into a protracted street fighting insurgency is not what they want.Putin is still stuck in a 1980s-90s KGB world mentally.
The effects of Russia's invasion of Ukraine are becoming increasingly clear.
Ukraine's health ministry says 352 civilians, including 16 children, have been killed since the beginning of the war.
It says 1,684 people have been wounded, including 116 children.
Russia has not released any detailed casualty figures, but Ukraine claims to have killed more than 4,000 invaders. It is not known how many Ukrainian troops have been killed, but the UN says it knows of more than 100 deaths. Ukraine's claim about Russian casualties cannot be verified.
This is what would happen if US air power was involved. But we would likely be starting WWIII.Put that in the context of the currently clogged Russian supply convoys...
Correct. Then we would become the enemy in the eyes of the Russian people whose loved ones are in Ukraine instead of the Ukrainians themselves. This is what would happen if US air power was involved. But we would likely be starting WWIII.
Yeah the longer this goes on, the worse it gets for Russia. Of course, the more Ukraine gets destroyed as well. I think Putin was planning for a quick strike. Take out the leadership and install a puppet regime. That did not happen. But I can't see Putin tucking his tail to retreat. He will ramp up the bombing and pressure until Ukraine caves, destroying everything if needed.I'm more and more convinced this is going to end badly for the Russians. Getting pulled into a protracted street fighting insurgency is not what they want.
They do not have the force levels to sustain an occupying force in light of the willingness of the Ukrainians to fight it out via urban warfare.

Ukraine Says It Used Turkish-Made Drones to Hit Russian Targets
Ukraine’s air force confirmed two strikes on Russian targets by Turkish-made drones, evidence that Kyiv is using the drones effectively against Moscow’s invading forces. Great interview with Gen. Petraeus:
...but they won't. Ukraine is about the same size as TX. The western side of it borders on Poland & is a great place to provide support to the insurgency. He will map up the bombing and pressure until Ukraine caves, destroying everything if needed.
while I don't know if it is the same as what you mentioned, in the summer of 1994, I lived in Lviv, Ukraine as part of a Rotary exchange...we flew in through Warsaw and took a train to Lviv...when we hit the Polish/Ukranian border they jacked up each railway car and rolled out the wheels for the gague of track in Poland and from other direction rolled in the wheels for the gauge of the track in UkraineHere's a really cool video history lesson about the railway gauge thing I mentioned in a previous post.
The 1886 rail gauge changeover in the South happened so quickly that it's rarely mentioned in U.S. History books.
Put that in the context of the currently clogged Russian supply convoys and you can see a parallel between the two very different historical periods.
