What should our response be if Russia invades Ukraine?

Sitting ducks for anyone with the courage and resources to take them out.

The offensive would take months instead of days or weeks if someone could do that.

Well maybe if they hadn't invaded Ukraine with an unprovoked attack, Finland wouldn't be considering joining NATO. Fucktards.
And he said in his recent address to the Russian people that he's trying to restore the old Soviet Union.

Various leaders over the years have accused him of that, but now the truth has finally come out since he admitted it in his recent address.

This is a game-changer for the balance of power in the world, regardless of the outcome in Ukraine.

He's made Russia once again a world villain on the global stage and united the allies against him in a way they haven't been in 20 years. I feel pretty confident that whatever he might gain from the invasion, it's pretty sure he has lost more and will continue to do so. Meanwhile, Ukrainian troops have retaken Kharkov and progress in Kiev has ground to a halt ... I don't think any of this has gone the way he thought it would.

It's turning into a nightmare for Putin. Western democracies are ganging up on his finances and it's getting ugly. How long can Russia withstand all the money crises?

Almost certain some kind of western supported insurgency will ensue if Russia does not pull out. This may be even worse than their Afghanistan.

Russian forces have not performed well. Reports from US sources show they had lots of equipment failures and some of it could not be brought across the border. They also have supply chain issues.
And they have not achieved air superiority....that's a head shaker. If pushed, NATO airpower would soundly defeat them.

From what I have read in the preceding years, Ukraine is filled with graft and corruption on both sides and that's what makes things so murky over there. The violence has also been going on for longer than most people realize.

The images coming out of the Ukraine are certainly disturbing, but you have look to the reasons behind why Ukraine is not a part of NATO and see things have not been so clear-cut over the years. In that sense, bringing Ukraine into NATO would be like letting the wolf into the henhouse in terms of its divided loyalties.

You almost have to let things play out to let the distinctions emerge as to who is really on what side. It took some time in our own American Revolution for France to decide which side to take.

Many folks in PA, NY, and NJ were still loyal to the Crown of England at the time, too.

Having said all of the above, Putin's words and actions are going to resonate across previously neutral, disinterested European countries in the coming weeks.

Those countries will come to the obvious conclusion that the pain and suffering that's going on in Ukraine right now will happen to them, possibly much sooner than they think, unless they band together to stop it.

Once reinforcements are in the neighboring countries, then we may see a fairly strong and unified response in the Ukraine.

Switzerland is forgoing it's centuries old neutral stance, and imposing the same sanctions as the EU towards Russia.

I also wonder if we will see some countries begin drafting people to begin staffing increased military requirements as well.

In a sense, doing so would also possibly expend the pent-up energy that has been undoubtedly there from the Covid lock-downs over there.

It would possibly divert citizens' anger away from the respective governments and toward Putin instead.

I feel an insurgency is likely. History repeats....

The huge pushback against Putin is a clear sign that he's not going to rebuild the USSR. If he is struggling to take Ukraine, what would happen if he faced NATO?

But none of this fixes all the destruction already done in Ukraine. Eff Putin....

Yep. They have been at odds for years and there is structure on the Ukrainian side. Citizen Soldiers.

Still, those exposed supply convoys are too temping not to take out since doing so would most certainly delay Russian victories in the field for quite a while and buy time for the Ukrainian forces.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has destroyed a "large" part of its own space history, with reports now confirming the fate of an enormous aircraft that was originally built to transport Soviet space shuttles.

Once the world's largest flying machine by both wingspan and weight, the Antonov An-225 "Mriya" ("Dream") was parked in an open-air hangar undergoing repairs at Hostomel (or Gostomel) airport, located to the northwest of Ukraine's capital city of Kyiv, when Russia launched its attack against the country on Thursday (Feb. 24).

Four days later, the news came that the one-of-a-kind aircraft was no more.

According to Wikipedia the Antonov An-225 Mriya held multiple records which included the heaviest aircraft ever built, and largest wingspan of any aircraft in operational service. Other records were weight and length of cargo and the capability to carry up to 640 tons (705 short tons).

Antonov began the process of building a second An-225 but it was never finished. Reports indicate it was about 60 to 70 percent complete the last time it was worked on in 2009.

The An-225’s little sister, the four-engine An-124, has been used many times to transport firefighting helicopters from the United States to Chile and Australia. One was even used in 2020 to haul three New Jersey Forest Fire Service engines and 10 firefighters to San Francisco to help battle wildfires in California. Volga Dnepr operates 12 An-124s.

Value of the Ruble dropped 25% today. Russian central bank was forced to raise interest rates to 20%. Russian stock market had to stop trading today.

We have to be careful to not give Putin a reason to rally the Russian population around him (no gas on the fire).
That could be a trap waiting for the west that Putin has set for us.

Correct. Once Russians and Americans start killing each other, the gloves would come off on both sides.

Brinkmanship still in play.

The thirst for hope and the spread of uncertainty have been so rampant in Ukraine that at least one Christian store has totally run out of Bibles.

Robert L. Briggs, president and CEO of American Bible Society, wrote a commentary Thursday for Christianity Today, explaining how Christians in Ukraine are responding to the Russian crisis.

“As people grapple with unknown, many are experiencing the Bible’s message for the first time ever,” Briggs wrote. “According to [Anatoliy Raychynets, deputy general secretary of the Ukrainian Bible Society], priests and pastors over the past weeks have been flocking to the Bible Society store in Kyiv to buy Bibles.”

The situation has been so intense the store reportedly ran out of Bibles, with Raychynets telling Briggs their biggest challenge is getting enough copies of scripture to meet the demand.

Interesting times.....social media is in full play. The Russians have stirred up a major sh_t storm for themselves.
