What should our response be if Russia invades Ukraine?

Then there's this Chinese BS near Australia.

Regulator Airservices Australia warned commercial pilots of a potential hazard in airspace between the countries as three Chinese warships conduct exercises off the Australian east coast, officials said.

But three flights from Sydney bound for the New Zealand cities of Christchurch and Queenstown were in the air before they were first warned of a live-fire exercise by a Chinese warship in their path, news media reported.

It is how diplomacy works, if history repeats itself Zelensky is the dictator as I said earlier in this thread but it was deleted when we were practicing McCarthyism and not talking politics in this thread... I'm not saying he is a dictator but he certainly isn't the face of Democracy! If we continue with you can't trust Putin narrative as if you can trust an American politician or any politician for that matter and don't have diplomatic talks we are not a civil society and are back to just sending kids to die for leaders!
Zelensky should have gone to the negotiating table long ago as I said, he has destroyed his country and sent countless kids to die in a war he can't win while trying to pull the world in at every chance!
Diplomacy works by excluding 1 of the 2 countries at war? Interesting

Worked for Chamberlain.

It starts by talking to both sides with an intermediate between them, no one is excluding Ukraine because they were not at one meeting? The entitlement of Zelensky is pretty large considering he is begging for help, he immediately went to Europe and tried to alienate America and make us the bad guy but people keep taking up for a guy that has only state journalism, no elections and is getting rich and powerful off of war with no desire for peace talks except on his terms...

On the one hand, demanding mineral rights as collateral for our substantial investment in Ukraine's defense makes financial sense, but most folks would say we're not really taking a neutral stand, either.

In fact, most would say it obligates us for the long term. Although it's not a military agreement, it would still need some type of military protection to keep Russia from getting their hands on it.

Getting some payback on our investment while demanding Europe support Ukraine more would make sense, but Putin wouldn't exactly be thrilled with it.

Definitely some "Art of the Deal" stuff going on here.

Interesting indeed.

Yep.

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive negotiations, said Kyiv believes the establishment of the fund would itself serve to bolster Ukraine’s security since U.S. and Ukrainian investments would need to be protected amid continuing Russian attacks.

Under the agreement, Ukraine will contribute 50% of future revenues to the joint fund from national assets including minerals, hydrocarbons, oil, natural gas and other extractable materials. Kyiv has hoped that access to those materials would incentivize the Trump administration to help secure a fair and lasting end to the war.

Putin must have told Trump to go screw himself in the meeting without Zelensky.

Trump has said we have given Ukraine $350B when it's only been $200B. This makes me think there's $150B for Ukraine at some point down the road.

Protecting those assets will also mean Ukraine is more likely to be able make money off of them as well and start rebuilding.

Very interesting indeed.

I have read some articles that imply Putin is in no hurry to end the war. He is interested in saving face within Russia. I don't know if this is something that can be a part of and kind of "deal". Russians will always do Russian things that do not make sense & its why they cannot be trusted.

Allegedly, Russia's economy is heading down a path of implosion if something doesn't happen. And allegedly, Putin either doesn't care or is ignoring it.

And any discussion of peacekeepers, has to be backed up with air power. That is the obvious X factor (western style air power) missing in this war from the beginning.
If at some point, Russia decides to tangle with western air power, they will find out quickly they are in deep sh_t.

Ukraine has already proven how vulnerable key Russian assets are to attack from long range drones. Imagine what a full on air power assault would do!

If Putin caves on Ukraine, some would say he might overthrown and murdered, but I don't know.

Korea was annexed by the Empire of Japan after years of war, intimidation, and political machinations. It remained part of Imperial Japan from 1910 until 1945.

After Japan's surrender in World War II, Korea was occupied by the Soviet Union and the USA, leading to the division of the Korean Peninsula and eventually the Korean War. Most people associate China with the Korean War because of it crossing the NK border and driving UN troops south, but Russia actually occupied NK while the US was responsible for SK.

The Soviets refused to participate in any type of post-war free elections while we allowed that to happen in SK from 1948-49. When we pulled out, Soviet-backed forces invaded from the North and that's what started the Korean War.

The Russians don't really have a great track record with peaceful negotiations and such.

From the article: "But again, when a country has lost 800,000 soldiers, with around 500,000 who never returned from the battlefield—either killed or critically wounded—it is such a staggering loss that I struggle to fully grasp it," he said.

David Petraeus was one of our best officers before that personal scandal hosed-up his career IIRC.

A great analysis.

Well, that didn't go too well. LOL

A quick solution would be great, but this is a very hot and brutal war. Ukraine and Russia are probably going to slug this out whether we give Ukraine any more aid or not.

Ukraine needs to stop this war and get the best deal they can. I absolutely hate the Russians but Ukraine simply can't win this war (defeat Russia on the battlefield) as long as Putin is fine with throwing away additional tens of thousands of Russian cannon fodder soldiers.

Soviet/Russian history and doctrine dictates that Putin will continue to do just that, he cares nothing about Russian lives let alone Ukrainian lives. IMHO we've given them enough equipment, supplies and money. If Europe wants to continue to fund/supply Ukraine let them have at it.

And do what? Surrender? If they give up land, Russia will only come back later and try and grab more. This is their 3rd iteration (Crimea/Donbass).
Even some kind of peace keeping force will eventually evolve into a war. Russians are going to Russian.

Europe is headed for war. Our current admin has chosen sides. Putin is delighted.

History repeats.

So you want to see what? American troops in Ukraine? WW3?

Hard to believe how f#cking stupid trump and Vance are.

That meeting exceeded anything Putin could’ve dreamed of

The dumbest part was trump berating him with “you really hate Putin.” No s#it dummy. Putin invaded his country and killed like 100,000 of his people

Didn't Russia and Stalin defeat Hitler 🤔 didn't the West provide support to Stalin to turn the tide of the war?
So how does history repeat itself unless Zelensky is Hitler?

Not with our current admin.

As far as US or western forces in Ukr, don't assume the worst.
Western air power can be a powerful deterrent. Look no further than Desert Storm or the recent IAF air campaign in Gaza.

If we walk away from Europe, American will leave a power vaccum in Europe that someone else will fill. Watch what UK, France, Germany, and a few others do in the next few months. Nixon and Reagan are turning in their graves. 😟

Did you just compare Zelinski to Hilter?
In most of Europe & most other democracies, Zelenski is a hero. In the US right wing media, he's a grifter, dictator, and apparently a Nazi jew.

Russian propaganda is alive and well in the USA. It's like cocaine for the masses.
