What should our response be if Russia invades Ukraine?

I don't mind getting involved, but at what cost?
I think he would like to have American boots on the ground and coming here stokes the fire between us and Russia. I do not think we need to go that far and question the $$ on the aid we are providing and what it is actually being spent on. There needs to be accountability for that money, but I won’t get into the weeds on that as that will take this thread into a whole other conversation.

There have already been American boots as volunteers. I actually (if I was younger) would volunteer if I really thought I could help. Unfortunately, the current climate PLUS both sides committing war crimes makes it hard to support anything going on. That is something that is besides the $$$ involved.

Has anybody asked the question why this is stretching out almost like the past clashes? Afghanistan and Russia 40 years ago parallels the same thing that happened to us a decade or so later. Stretching out bloated wars, destroying entire countries, or is it deliberate to enable the grifters?

Can we ask if we are backing one dictator over another? Zelensky is portrayed as a hero but may have suppressed freedom of the press, arrested political parties that oppose him, shut down churches for not practicing religion correctly according to reports... is there truth to these reports 🤔

While that may be true, this is a case in which a country is invading a neighboring sovereign country...while there may be two bad guys, I have far more sympathy for the people of the Ukraine

The lesser of 2 evils is noticeably lesser. Western democracies are getting a refresher on why there was a cold war 30+ yrs ago.

None of this would be happening if one particular belligerent just stayed home, but some people can't help themselves. It's in their nature. 😠

It is in my nature to be curious of those the media have ordained as a hero

None of this would be happening if a competent leader was in the White House

Did you have sympathy for Ukrainians before this act of aggression? Do you think there are Russian sympathizers or supporters living in the Border zones of Ukraine that Zelensky and his supporters wanted to weed out or were discriminated against as Russia has claimed, do you think there is any truth at all to this claim or it is pure propaganda?
Do you think media telling the world Ukraine is kicking Russias ass while simultaneously complaining when Russia bombs them is conducive to ending this conflict? Do you think Ukraine is corrupt at all, do you trust them with Billions of dollars and weapons paid for by you and your fellow Americans with little to no oversight? Do you believe Ukraine had bio weapon labs or that was all propaganda as reported?
Interesting articles below, think about this, in 1994 Ukraine had the 3rd largest nuclear arsenal in the world before agreeing to hand it over to Russia... 🤔

Eventually it's going to get to a point where only NATO/U.S. forces need to be operating any weapons more sophisticated than the ones given to the UAF so far for security purposes. We just don't need our best weapons that close to Russia without good reason.

The longer this drags out, the more likely Ukraine is to launch a counter-invasion to force the Russians to withdraw.

I honestly thought there would have been a pull-out/cease fire by now.

I still don't understand the purpose of the Russian invasion, either. The level of human suffering for apparently no reason does not make sense to me.

Sounds like they should have kept them. Putin probably would not have invaded. Of course, that's 30 years of 'what-ifs'. so who knows how the world would be different today.

If these numbers are anywhere close to accurate it's insane.

Lots of question marks about those numbers....total KIA? Total KIA + WIA?
Also a lot of those are not RA, but contractor/conscripts/prisoners, etc. I've read some twitter reports of human wave attacks. o_O

While some of them might not be Russian they are (were) being paid by Russia as well as supplied and equipped by Russia so it's costing them money.

Also the more casualties these mercenaries take the harder it becomes for Russia to recruit more of them.

The Wagner group has been flooding the front lines with prisoners. It is a real WWI style meat grinder.

Check pic below. It is from the past few days. From an area around Bakhmut. Those are not Ukrainians. I will delete it if anyone finds it offensive. 😬

Western countries have committed billions in other weaponry - but without Germany's commitment on tanks, it was not the result Ukraine was hoping for.

Ukraine wants German-made Leopard 2s as they are easy to maintain and designed specifically to compete with the Russian T-90 tanks, which is being used in the invasion.

There are believed to be more than 2,000 Leopard 2 tanks worldwide and President Zelensky believes about 300 of them would help ensure it can defeat Russia.

The war is at a very significant tipping point right now.

The country knows its best, perhaps only, chance of fending off the massed assault Russia is expected to launch in the coming months is fielding a sizable force of western-supplied armour.

Despite hesitation over the Abrams tanks, the US announced fresh support worth more than $2.5bn (£2bn) this week, including armoured vehicles.
The Pentagon promised an extra 59 Bradley armoured vehicles, 90 Stryker personnel carriers and Avenger air defence systems, among other supplies.
Nine European nations have also promised more support of their own after meeting on Thursday in Estonia. They included:
  • UK - 600 Brimstone missiles
  • Denmark - 19 French-made Caesar self-propelled howitzers (cannon)
  • Estonia - howitzers, ammunition, support vehicles and anti-tank grenade launchers
  • Latvia - Stinger air-defence systems, two helicopters, and drones
  • Lithuania - anti-aircraft guns and two helicopters
  • Poland - S-60 anti-aircraft guns with 70,000 pieces of ammunition
  • Czech Republic - produce further large calibre ammunition, howitzers and APCs
  • Netherlands - support expected to be detailed on Friday

NATO needs to either go all-in or get the hell out so the bloodshed will stop.

The only thing I will say is that Putin is going to remember the countries listed above that are providing weapons in this war if there is not a cease-fire and Russian withdrawal pretty soon. At some point, providing the weapons and training the Ukrainians to use them is the same thing as actually using the weapons against Russia ourselves.

Cease-fire and Russian withdrawal honoring the pre-invasion borders is the only way to avoid the escalation in violence that may be coming sooner than we want ourselves to think.

So why is it that Russia gets to decide what's OK to use or not use in this war? If they don't want to face Western armor/weapons systems they can always go back to Russia and leave Ukraine alone.
