Evaluating Muschamp tenure at the helm so far

Florida fired two coaches in a row within four years of hiring them. Your timelines are outdated, Mr Ed.
Indeed times have changed....especially the outrageous pay scales.

People implying USC fires coaches "every 4 years" are making that up. We've fired 2 coaches since Joe Morrison passed....Sparky and Brad Scott....both got 5 full seasons.

If Muschamp hadn't of already been fired previously, he'd get a longer leash. But no way we continue to pay $4.2 mil/yr to "see if Muschamp can right the ship".

There is so much wrong with this post, but before I start pointing those things out, I want to say thank you for your allegiance to the coaching staff. It's not a bad thing to be loyal.

Now the problems.

1. I'm afraid you don't know what facts are. By definition, nothing in the future can be a fact (without time travel). As a result, the only pure and simple facts in your reply are that you were there (player, coach, fan? Who knows?) and that Missouri and TAMU were not in the SEC. Everything else is your opinion. Same as it's my opinion that if you give champ 6 years, you've set the team up for longer failure. Unless you are capable of visiting the future, we both are guessing AND you are not staying facts.

2. You seem to miss the most relevant fact in this whole situation. (Please note I'm referring to an actual fact not just my opinion) Florida fired muschamp after 4 years and arguably more success. They fired butter teeth after three years. You may have noticed, they don't suck five years after firing champ. This is the best data point anyone has.

3. When champ was fired after 4 years at Florida, he thought he had been given enough opportunities and didn't win enough. It's a paraphrased quote, but minimally varying from the actual statement.

4. There it's nothing at all wrong with being a fan of an underperforming team and wanting the coach fired, even if you don't have a succession plan. First off none of us are the person who's job it is to make the hire. Assuming you're not Ray Tanner. Bitching and moaning is complaining when you have the power to make the situation better but don't. As fans, our job isn't too find the next coach. Our job is to voice our opinions as financial and emotional supporters.

5. Finally, that's not what theory means. Not colloquially. Certainly not scientifically. Not at all really.

6.  Again, from one gamecock to another, I respect your loyalty. I just think it's misplaced.
Gosh, you make it fun by being so misplaced with your opinions and misconceptions.  Let's start here:

Time travel - you want to fire Coach Muschamp now or at the end of the season???  My opinion is like yours and I think that I stated this earlier that you are entitled to yours as I am mine.  I just don't think firing a coach now is the right thing to do and as several other people have already stated about the "Official Buyout" - it just makes sense in so many ways to give Coach Muschamp and his staff more time.  You still have not given your "true reasons for wanting Coach Muschamp fired other than you think that USC is just terrible this year".  I and others are simply wanting to know "what your magical plan is for success at USC and how to do it now"?  Moan and complain all that you want too as this is your right as a fan, but also at the same time you should share your opinion on what Coach Muschamp & staff should do to get us to the "Top Of The SEC Faster"???  I have stated that I think he needs about two more years to be a very successful coach and all you need to do is give us your opinion (not more moaning or complaining) but your rational thought process of how Coach Muschamp should do it.  I think we would all appreciate a little help on that situation and less drama.

Then you speak of Coach Muschamp getting fired at Florida.  You just "throw that out there without giving the full story".  Find out why the Florida AD at the time Jerry Foley hired Coach Muschamp and what he ask him to do and after Coach Muschamp cleaned up the football program - getting rid of all the bad apples that the previous coach had brought there - there was a drop in talent - which led to a Florida Team having to "re-load" the talent pool for the Gators.  Even after Coach Muschamp left there, the next coach was winning games with Coach Muschamp's players.  Did he have the best winning record while he was there, no he did not, but he did what the AD ask him to do and if he had been left in place Florida would have gotten back to the top even quicker, even Pawl Finnebaum has stated this!!!

You are also comparing a "rebuild job at Florida to a rebuild job at USC".  Florida is the #1 hot spot for football recruits in the nation.  So where do you think the easier place would be to do a rebuild job at???  Think about some of this before commenting on it as it is not a fair comparison at this stage now.  If we could win a couple of SEC East Division Championships and maybe a SEC Championship, then you could compare a rebuild at USC like one at Florida.

I have stated all along that I understand why Gamecock Fans are upset.  Heck, I hate to lose as much as anyone else does, but I don't believe in firing coaches every four years unless there is something illegal going on to harm the program.  I wonder if next season USC under Coach Muschamp won the SEC East - would you be the first on board to brag all about it or would you still want him fired???

I respect your loyalty for complaining and wanting to fire anyone and everyone associated with the USC Football Team.  I totally think you are "misplaced".

I honestly hope that this season turns around for USC, as this is just not about Coach Muschamp and his won/lost record, but also about our players and how hard they are trying to win.  We all knew (those of us with open minds) that this year was going to be tough and most football experts were picking at best - USC would be 7-5 and many had us at 6-6.  This did upset me as I thought that we would sneak up on a few teams and steal a couple and maybe get to 8-4.  Things happen and we are not having a very good season, but let it go after 24/48 hours and become a Gamecock Fan again.  All of us that have supported this University have been through these type of seasons before and we will get better.

I am not Ray Tanner, even though I have met the man and have the greatest amount of respect for him and what he has done for our university.  I also think he has done a great job as our AD.  I have full faith in him that if and when the time comes and our program needs to go in a new direction (and I hope not), Coach Tanner will do whatever is best for our university.

The Sun Will Come Up Tomorrow - So Have A Nice Day And Enjoy This Season And Let's All Hope USC And Coach Muschamp Gets This Thing Turned Around For All Of The Gamecock Nation.

Stopped reading at the point you made it clear you forgot what our last two coaches did. Win at USC. Really the underlying assumption in your position is that USC just can't be that good. It's just my opinion but I think we can be every but as good as Clemson is right now. You don't think we can be as good as Florida. That is exactly the pessimistic attitude that I hoped died with three 11 win seasons. The chicken curse apparently survived.

Thanks.  I thought I tried that but must have done it incorrectly.  I will always support the Gamecocks, win or lose.  I just think this staff is not going to take us anywhere.  I am not expecting CFP or conference championships all the time, but I am tired of mediocre football and coaching.
Lucky for you we might not be mediocre for long if our trajectory continues. I mean unless you consider Tennessee mediocre...

Do you believe that it takes 2 recruiting cycles for a new staff to establish itself and start getting the players it wants?  Can you understand how that may be a challenge in year 4 when that first patchwork recruiting class now makes up your senior leadership?
He did better with players coached and recruited by someone else. Are you saying it's going to keep getting worse?

We have talented players on the roster now. What worries me is how the coaching has seemingly gotten worse. Our coaches don’t have a good feel for calling a game, don’t make good in game adjustments, we lack discipline in areas such as proper tackling, leveraging the LOS, gap control, DBs out of position. All of this boils down to coaching and it’s alarming how similar Muschamp’s stop at Florida and his tenure here have been. He’s regressed at both places over the years.

^^THIS for the most part.

Yes, we have one of the hardest schedules this year.  But please explain how that comment relates to UVA, UNC, and MO.

No one expected us to win Bama, so I actually enjoyed watching that game as we kept it interesting for about a half.  UVA and MO were complete clusters.  I have never played or coached football in my life, but promise if you give me a play sheet I could have gained 30 yards in the first half against MO, and I'd take 25% of BMac's salary.

I agree CWM needs more time to right the ship, but if Tanner isn't already putting feelers out then he's making a huge mistake.  If this trend continues for the rest of this year, it will be hard not to make a change.  CWM will need to make a change internally, replacing the OC at minimum.  That's the only thing that may save his own job.

And finally, if we do cut CWM, Tanner needs to go immediately also.  He's done absolutely nothing for our school, other than win baseball games.  Giving our football staff their current contracts is a disgrace.

Good stuff.

Also consider this.... at this point in time it is a far shot for us to make a bowl game.

Now, if Hilinski's elbow turns out to be worse than it is and we have to play DJ then we might win 2-3 games total all season.  Imagine how awful things will be then.

Our issues are what they are, but UVA has gotten off to a 4-0 start this season and is currently ranked #18 BTW.

Muschamp's tenure has been trending in the wrong direction and I am starting to have less and less faith that he can get it done here

Yes.....but if Will goes 4-8 or worse, I see him getting the pink slip at seasons end.

All of the coaches had to know how important the Mizzou game was and they still fell flat.

They are not doing this intentionally.....they simply can't fix it.

I like Muschamp as our coach. I'm really hoping he can turn this season around. For some strange reason, right after the Mizz game, I told my wife, " we will beat Kentucky next week".  Now, we may not win another game this year or we possibly could win 3 or 4. Either way, I will continue to support the University, our coach, and this team.

To say what I think is the problem or what changes are needed? I wish I had the answers. Observing from my seat at the games or my recliner (lol), I think we have recruited well and have the talent to win. Which brings me to my thoughts. We have some coaches who are known as great recruiters, but may not have what it takes to be head of an offense or a defense. I watch other teams and ask myself sometimes, " why can't our offense play like that or the same for our defense". Hey, I'll be the first to admit I know nothing about coaching football. I don't know what is being said by the coaches, during team meetings, or at practice. I'm not all about winning, I just want to be a well coached, competitive, hard playing team for every game. Win or lose, I will always be a Gamecock.

Our program seems to be trending much like Virginia Tech with the main difference being ACC schedule vs SEC schedule

As long as Muschamp continues to bring in recruiting classes like his last two I think we will start winning a lot of games in about two years.  Those classes are loaded, they are just young.

The only disappointment so far this year is UNC in my opinion.  And I put that one on Jake Bentley, he was awful.    The Missouri loss sucks but in the end I think they will turnout to be the 4th hardest team on the schedule.  And we were playing with an injured true freshman qb playing in his first road SECgame against a top 10 defense.  That shouldn’t be a huge shock.

Its still early, let the season play out.

I just dont believe Ryan was rattled. He wasnt rattled by BAMA. I REALLY believe he is/was injured.

Here are some sobering stats from the game on Saturday that will make you sick to your stomach:

The Gamecocks had 16 yards rushing Saturday and averaged less than a yard per carry. It's the fewest yards they gained on the ground since picking up zero rushing yards in 2003 against LSU

South Carolina had 16 drives Saturday, averaging 4.1 plays and 15.8 yards per drive. Half of the drives were three-and-outs with five of those going for negative yardage. Of the 16 drives, 12 gained 10 yards or less with one being a one-yard touchdown drive.

I am not impressed with our game plans or lack there of.  Agree 100% that in game adjustments are not happening or working.  BM on offense and T-Rob on Defense need to step it up big time.

What I absolutely do not understand is why can't BMAC call games like he did vs Bama. There was flow, there was creativity, short routes to help Ryan get settled in, took shots down the field.  There was some flow with our play calls, run game was going (especially with the two pulling o-lineman), tried to keep them off balance.

WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO REPLICATE?? I lose brain cells trying to figure it out.

Assuming everything keeps going on this bipolar trajectory, offensively specific, I don't see how we can bring Muschamp back with BM still as the OC.  Tanner and WM need to go out and get a big time or hot up and comer, OC money be damn.  I don't think it is WM keeping the OC from being good as much as it is the guys he has hired.  They need to go the route that Ok State did a few years back when he wanted an OC.  He went and researched all divisions of football and found a guy who he could bring in and was doing big things and let him do his job.

We are just running a modified/hybrid Roper offense and it isn't good at anything.  We could be an elite O with Hilinski and young OL and skill talent, but we can't waste this chance to be the O that HS kids want to play in.  We could become the SEC east O that kids want to come play in, if we get the right OC.
